Kristen & Heather

Have you moved Margot/Parker into their own room yet?

Robert is sleeping really well and I'm considering doing this at 1 month.  I know I'll cry the entire first night, but I think he may be ready.  Just not sure if I'm ready yet.

  • I didn't move Amelia to her crib until she was 7 months.  Don't know if that helps you or not. Embarrassed

Did you do this on purpose or did Amelia not like the move?  I wish I could keep him in my room forever, but I'm thinking this may not be good for having "us" time.

  • We were/are actually really, really lucky - Amelia has slept through the night since birth.  Seriously, I had to wake her up for feedings.  That said, I was the only reason she stayed with us for so long.  I was just more comfortable knowing she was right there next to me (in a PnP).  It also made it much easier for the nighttime feedings.  She had no issues being moved to her crib in her room, me on the other hand....let's just say I spent a lot of time walking back and forth between our room and hers.  And, yes, our "us" time was affected.  DH didn't seem to care, but I sure did.  Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) my sex drive was way below zero for quite awhile after Amelia was born, so there wasn't too much "us" time going on.

  • We actually only kept Margot in our room for a couple nights. I was getting no sleep what so ever because every time she would make a noise in her sleep I was up checking on her...and even when she wasn't making noise, I was up checking on her to make sure she was still breathing. haha

So, after a couple nights, I said this is crazy, let's try her in her crib with the angelcare monitor and the sleep sheep. Her room is very close to ours and I was having to take her in there anyways every night to change her diaper. So we put her in her crib, left both doors open, and turned the monitor and sleep sheep on (she loves the ocean noise). It's been perfect for us! I am calm because when I wake up I can look at the monitor and see the little breathing thing moving back and forth and go right back to sleep. It also picks up her noises when she's waking up and with the doors open, I hear her waking up noises and not the little sleeping noises even without the monitor. I pretty much always get to her before she's in a full out cry.

On a side note, ever since we put her in her crib, she's been sleeping 5-7 hours (usually 6-7), then another 3-5. She really likes it and I'm glad we won't have to go through a transition period. My sister had an awful time trying to get her 3 month old to sleep in his crib in his own room by himself.

    Good luck!!

  • Thanks!

I think I'm going to try in a few nights definitely.  He has been doing between 4-6hr stretches and then another 2-4hrs after his 4am feeding.  I have a video monitor and I know that I will end up watching it all night the first night.

  • We haven't yet, but I just said to H that we should give it a try this weekend or next.  I want to make the transition before he knows what's up in hopes that it will make it smoother.  Any pointers you ladies can offer, please do!

I think this is a great plan! We had Nate with us for 2 weeks while my mom (and dad occasionally) was staying with us, since his room is also our guest room. He was still sleeping mostly short intervals, and very irregular, with an occasional 5 hour stretch. I think that if we had waited until he was sleeping better to make the change, it would have disrupted his sleeping pattern.
