is pizza sauce a "vegetable"....yay or nay?

DS is in Kindergarten this year and every month we are responsible for bringing in the theme snack for the day.  Tommorrow DS is suppose to bring in snack incorperating vegetable somehow.

I've already made  mini carrot cake muffins but I also was thinking of making some mini veggie pepperoni pizzas too.  The problem is that most kids won't eat cooked veggies on pizza so I don't want to add that and veggie pepperoni doesn't even contain vegetables so now I'm wondering if the pizza sauce would count as the vegetable part of the snack?

TIA

Re: is pizza sauce a "vegetable"....yay or nay?

  • Pizza sauce would technically count as a vegetable but I would think that the class may want to stay away from pizza altogether as a healthy snack. For my children's after school program I made them a veggie tray , which I know on it's own is boring, but the dip was made into a vampire (as it was Halloween). You could make a character for dip like blues clues or dora or spongebob that the kids would know. You just need some food colouring.

  • Thanks for the suggestion.  We did the predictibile veggies and dip for the veggie theme earlier this month so I didn't want to repeat it.  I love your idea of the character though.   I'll have to keep it in mind for next time around.
