Insurance Question

I have a seperate policy for my wedding set. It is with the company that carries out car and homeowners. We bought it when we were renters and were under the impression that it would not have fallen under that renters policy.

Is this neccesary to carry or should this fall under my home owners?

Re: Insurance Question

  • Fairly sure it falls under homeowner's.. but couldn't hurt to give them a call to check.

  • We have ours the same way (we're currently renting, it may change when we get our homeowners policy). We were told that for things that are more expensive to replace, you'd want a rider because you can have a lower deductible and don't have to worry about having a max amount of coverage not enough to replace them.

I'm currently researching homeowners' policies, so I'm checking into this as well.

  • For my engagement & wedding rings I know we have some sort of rider attached to our home owners policy.

Exactly.  I'm not too intimately familiar with personal insurance, but this is what we have and what I've always heard recommended.

If you actually do have a whole separate policy (inland marine?) I'd look into getting the jewelry scheduled onto your homeowners insurance because it would probably be less expensive.

I could be using the wrong terminology. DH takes care of this for the most part. I know that we pay a flat fee once a year to insure our jewelry. It is through USAA.

This is the same for us but DH takes care of all that.

Ours is the same way, and through USAA. More than likely they have a jewelry rider on your personal property insurance.

  • Definitely get a quote to have it scheduled on your Homeowners' insurance & make sure you know your deductibles. I have mine scheduled on the HO policy.

We have mine scheduled on an inland marine attached to our HO policy. It is a seperate fee. This way your personal property deductible does not apply. We also have USAA.

  • I don't post here often, but I work in tallahassee for an Insurance company. Def get the rider or inland marine. Some homeowner policies only coverjewelry to a certain amount, 1000, or 2500 at most for some. Plus it is only covered for certain things. Under the rider/seperate policy you can get it covered for no/little deductible and many many more causes of loss.
