So my ant problem continues
And it's getting worse. And I'm about to lose it.
We used the little bait houses and it's not helping. I'm thinking we have a colony either inside the house or just outside somewhere? I have no idea how to find it.
I know some have suggested Borax? If I try that will they take it back to the colony? How much do I use and where do I put it? DH won't go the pest management route until we try more home remedies.
Edit: Is it safe around kids and pets? ::off to google::
Re: So my ant problem continues
I believe they do carry Borax back to the colonly, but it isn't safe for kids and pets as far as I know.
I think there are several home remedies that are out there, but who knows how well they work.
I did, leave a little pile, and they will take it back to their home. we get them EVERY YEAR! I don't get it!
I don't think it's deadly, just would make them sick. but if you put it where you THINK they're coming in, then it totally works.
Also they do make a little ant posin, I don't know if you're willing to try that, but that will kick them in NO time. What we've done is, put a dime to nickel size drop on a tiny piece of cardboard, and no joke, it'll be black, from all the ants in about a minute, that is a VERY sure fire way to get them to go way. We've done it when the dogs are outside, and when El's in bed, it won't take long to get them to take it, then take it back to their colonie.
And, pretty soon, we'll be sprinkeling around the outside of our house to see if that helps! Broax is also a GREAT weed killer!
About a year and a half ago we had a similar ant problem. We tried lots of different home remedies to get rid of them and nothing worked on them. We finally ended up hiring a company to come out and spray the inside and outside of our house. We have never had any problems since then.
Every year I buy this stuff made by Ortho that I buy at Sam's club and it comes in a red bag (I can't remember the name of it to save my life!). You take a cup and sprinkle it by the foundation of the home. It kills more than just ants, but we've never had a problem. They also make an indoor spray with no odor but.. I'm pretty sure that's not kid or pet friendly. We have three pets so I have to block off rooms and do it one room at a time, make sure it's good and dry, and then move on. We've never had a problem with pets getting sick and we've been doing this 6 years, but we also don't have any human children yet.
Good luck!
We had a similar ant problem last year (they were coming from somewhere behind our dishwasher of all places!). We couldn't get anything to work so we hired a friend from Preferred Pest Control to come over. He came once and whatever he did worked - they haven't been seen since.
If you go the pest management route let me know and I will give you our friend Mark's number.
