does this sound cheap...

So for Allie's bday we are having it at colt state park. We talked about food and we both agreed that we don't want to worry about cooking there and we want to enjoy our time not spend it cooking. We looked into catering but it cost like 500 bucks for BBQ!! Unless I find a place a lot cheaper we were going to do pizza as the main food. I will have lots of snacks too. I don't want to look cheap but I don't want to spend that much on food for 30ish people!! What do you think?

Re: does this sound cheap...

  • I always do pizza for birthday parties.  It is quick, easy, cheap and fast to clean up.  I usually do a garden salad and pasta salad with it, just to have somethng extra.  I think it is perfect for a party.  It isn't  a wedding, it is a first birthday, so don't worry.
  • Pizza is perfect! It can def. be expensive to cater. Have you looked into Panera? They may be less expensive.
  • sounds fine for a birthday party. We did cheese & crackers, chips & dip, veggie tray & cupcakes for J's 1st birthday.

  • As a guest at kids' parties, I think pizza is fine and I would never, ever complain about it being served.  :)

  • Pizza is totally fine. I personally always do calzones with pizza. We go to Jeanette's and get pizza and spinach pies (party size of course). I went to a bday party at a park before and my SIL did sandwiches. Again, easy to eat with no real clean up and there was a variety.  I would just suggest a veggie tray or some fruit salad. to go along with the pizza.  Although I do like pizza I don't really like when there is nothing else with it that is not so "grainy-carby." But then again I always make sure that I am offering a balanced meal, even at bday parties! Or as a side note, you could have a veggie pizza choice there too. That would make me happy :-) (what I am not invited lol!)

  • Pizza is fine. We had a family reunion picnic at Colt State Park and got a bunch of rotisserie chickens from the supermarket near the park. That could be another option.

  • Doesn't sound cheap to me! I agree about having some healthier snack options (fruit/veggie trays), but pizza is a great option. Seriously, who doesn't like pizza?!

Sounds great to me!  I also like to have calzones at our birthday parties; and I always do a nice fresh fruit salad and a green salad (simple, just lettuce, cukes, tomatoes & croutons on the side & dressing); and sometimes a veggie tray (baby carrots, sliced peppers, celery) with dip.
  • Thanks ladies! There will be lots of snacks, veggies, fruit, salads and cake. I don't want to look cheap so glad to think people think like I do!
  • I think pizza sounds perfect. I also love the location- we went to a b-day party there last spring and they had kites and bubble soap..it was so much fun!
  • I think Pizza is fine. We had Indy's b-day party today and we had Pizza, Salad, veggie tray, chips and the cake. So much easier and less stress on you.
