Did you guys end up getting a chest or a stand up freezer???  I meant to comment on this earlier and completely forgot.  We got a chest freezer a few years ago when we got into our CSA.  I totally wish we had gotten a stand up freezer.  It's such a PITA to rotate, get to, find anything.

I **hope** you went with the stand up!!

  • While I, on the other hand, love having the chest freezer and love its efficiency. I have baskets that can slide around in mine and I keep everything grouped in stacks according to what the item is (veges, etc.). I put frozen meals in the baskets that move around according to what the primary component is or what meal it is for.

  • We went with the stand up. I wanted to be able to see things and also stick pre-made meals ice cream maker etc and my dig. It's got an alarm on it if it's open which is great with the little one and auto defrosts. We did te math and it will only cost an extra $60 a year and I'd rather have convience. If I were only putting a cow or pig, like inlays we would have gone chest. I'm already loving it so much! I honestly hate leaning over the bottom freezer in the kitchen, now most of it is gone!

I agree with you, Jess. I have no extra freezer, but there is a reason my Great Grandmother called her chest freezer "the great white hope"

You hope that you will be able to find what you need without moving too much stuff, you hope that you don't bury and forget about things, and you hope that something really tasty turns up in it some day.
