We've had a couple of big fires here this week, one of which is more rural and one in a major suburb. Both fires caused home evacuations. The suburb fire last night spread hella fast and people had to evacuate w/ hardly any notice.
What would you grab (besides DH and pets) if you had to leave ASAP?
What would you grab if you had an hour or two before danger hits?
Re: What would you save?
If I only had a couple minutes, I'd grab my purse (with my wallet, credit cards, cell phone, etc, already in it), my laptop, our wedding photo album, my grandmother's doll that she left me, and food for my kitty.
If I had an hour or two, I would start grabbing jewelry, clothes, and valuables.
Immediately, I would grab my purse, laptop and wedding photo that's in our entry way.
If I had a few hours I would frantically grab everything I could and throw it in a dufflebag, suitcase, etc.
With no time, I'd grab purse, wedding albums, lock box (even though it's fire/water proof), and my box of photos albums.
If I had a couple hours, I'd pack everything I could into my many duffle bags and load it into the car. I'd start with clothes and then move into the kitchen.
Photo albums/ CDs with all of your pictures on them.
If we had a hour to box some stuff up ? enough clothes for DH and I. I don?t really know, anything else that was nearby that I wouldn?t want to leave behind if I had extra space in my suitcases.
If at all possible I?d take my giant mirror down that was handed down to me from my mom from her mom on her wedding.
I?m sure DH would take all the fishing stuff he could fit in his truck.
If I had minutes I would grab obviously H, dogs, purse. And my second grabs would be wedding album & laptop.
Then if I had longer I would try to grab some clothes and shoes.
I'd grab the animals, my keys, my purse, and all the photos we could grab - this is considering Don's home to help me. If it was just me I'd grab the animals and my purse.
If we had an hour or two I'd grab as much as I could of our big ticket items in the house that cost more to replace (laptop, tvs, etc) than just clothes or food that are easily replaceable. Then if I had time I'd grab whatever I could get my hands on in our closets.
Right away, I would grab purse, Wedding DVD, and CD pictures. My mom's e-ring and wedding band and the couple pictures I have framed with her.
A couple hours I agree with Jen grab the bigger priced replacable items. TV, laptop, some clothes. More of my pictures and albums
With a few minutes, I would grab my purse, laptop, camera and my blankie (Shut up. I can't sleep without it! :-P) The rest of our important stuff is in a fireproof safe.
A few hours, I'd grab anything else sentimental in the house - photos, things that belonged to parents/grandparents, favorite clothes, things that would cost a lot to replace. In a couple of hours, I could do a lot of damage. It wouldn't be pretty, but it'd be smashed in my car!
A few minutes: purse, lock box w/ all our important papers, laptop and the animals.
A few hours: just stuff that can't be replaced. Photos, hard drives, photo cds, probably some clothes so that we could be clothed, everything is insured.

Had a dream I was queen.
Woke up. Still queen.
Thankfully we have never had anything like this happen. But would insurance pick up the tab for the bigger ticket items or would you just have to eat it?
Check your insurance policy! Make sure you have enough personal property which is what all of your clothes furniture tvs etc is.
With that being said I would grab stuff that Ellie would need and then a couple significant items to us.
With only a couple hours it would still be the same, mostly stuff to keep E the most comfortable and then stuff for Toby and I to get by on.
Yes, it would. H and I are OCD about our insurance policy.

Woke up. Still queen.
Running out the door I'd grab my purse and our fireproof safe.
If I had an hour I'd throw the following in a box:
