Alternative Teacher Certification

Have you completed a program or know someone who has? Is so, how did it work for you?

Re: Alternative Teacher Certification

  • My SIL did a few years ago... and just as an FYI she has told me that all probationary teachers (ones that are in their 1st year) are being let go first in the districts.
  • I did mine through ACT Dallas and loved it. It really prepared me (more so than some teachers who got their degree in education) and I easily got a job. That being said, that was 5 years ago. If you are thinking of changing professions, I wouldn't suggest changing to teaching at the current time.
  • I did it, and love it, but I agree with pp, I wouldn't do it now, I am a 3rd year teacher, and I may or may not still have a position next year, it depends on how deep the cuts are. I really feel bad for people who are graduating with an education degree in May.
