XP: VBAC's In Oklahoma/Tulsa?
I posted this on the local Bump board but it is dead so I was hoping some of you ladies might have some advice or know of some doctors!
"I am not currently pregnant but had my yearly appointment yesterday with my new OB/GYN. We recently moved to OK from MO and was so sad to leave my previous OB/GYN! He was amazing!
Anyway, I had a c-section with DS because he was face-presentation and large. After the surgery my former OB told me that a VBAC was a definite possiblity with how things went.
Fast-forward to yesterday: I am talking with my new OB/GYN about DH and I starting to TTC this fall and my plans for a VBAC when she completely took the rug out from under me. PLICO - Oklahoma's biggest malpractice insurance does not allow OB's to perform VBAC's! WTF! I'm so disappointed right now, I cried the entire was home from my appointment.
I am not comfortable going with a homebirth midwife and would like to deliver in a hospital but I am trying to figure out if anyone else has ever encountered anything like this! I keep calling offices and none of them do VBAC's. Is there a listing of doctors who perform them? I never thought it would be this hard with all of the information and studies out there supporting VBAC's."

I *think* OU is the only hospital in the OKC-area that does VBAC'S, but DH isn't here for me to ask. I'll ask him tonight and update.

My mom used to work at an OBGYN office in Tulsa a long time ago and I still used the doctor as my gyno when I lived there up until last year. I think your best bet would be to call her and see if she has any recommendations. Her whole practice is geared toward pregnancies with complications (not that VBAC is a complication) so I would guess they would be able to point you in the right direction: Dr. Kathleen Glaze. GL!

Are you in OKC? St. Anthony's used to do VBAC's but they don't anymore (right, Jenn?).
OU is your best best if you don't want a homebirth and you're around OKC.
I've been where you are! It is frustrating and it sucks that we don't have more options, but there are a few here.

There are doctors (and certified nurse midwives) in Oklahoma that attend VBACs. All the doctors (and CNMs) at OU attend VBACs. Also, Dr. Ryan at St. Anthony attends VBACs. In Tulsa, I think more do, but I know Dr. Thompson will do VBA2C. Lots of people are successful in VBAC attempts. 70%of women who attempt a VBAC have a VBAC (actually the exact same "success" rate as first time moms). PLICO doesn't insure all doctors in Oklahoma! You can find a GOOD doctor (or CNM) who will support you & where you don't have to FIGHT for your right to have a vaginal birth.

April 2011 -- planning a VBAC!!!!
They do, just not VBA2C. And only Dr. Ryan, so my understanding is that if he can't get there you get sectioned. I think the same goes for Dr. Thompson in Tulsa, but I am not sure on that.
I haven't been pregnant, but I've used Dr. Thompson as my gyno for several years and really like him.
