FYI - Chase Bank Customers

I received an email yesterday from Security.alert@chase.com with the heading "1 important change to your Chase account." When I opened it, the email stated that a third party accessed my account and they have shut down my debt card and credit cards. however at the bottom the word "gaurentee" is spelled wrong.

It gives you a link to click on to reactivate your account and the website looks exactly like the chase customer service website. It asked you for your name, social and all the information that Chase already has. I called Chase and they said this was a bogus site and an email has been circulating to their customers.

Watch out for this email and delete it!

Re: FYI - Chase Bank Customers

  • I don't have chase but I've seen those kinds of emails from my bank and cc companies. IMO if it was really fraud they would be calling you not emailing. When they do call I tell them I'll call them back at the number on the back of my card. I always delete those emails and then call them to make sure everything is ok.

I'm with Jenny....if it was fraud on your account, you would get a call.

It reminds me of those stupid emails people forward about missing children, etc. that have circulated FOREVER but with a changed name or place.  Hello, if the child was really missing, you would have known from the news.

  • I got one of those a very long time ago. It freaked me out but like in your case it was a hoax. Someone was trying to get your personal info to do god knows what with it. Asssholes.
  • I actually have multiple email addresses and have one that I use specifically for my online banking and financial accounts -- that way, if I get an email to one of the other email addresses from a bank, I know for sure it's a scam and can delete it without even reading it.  If it comes in to the correct email account, then I'll read it, but never click on the links from it -- I'll go to the bank site directly instead.
