Travelling up north dilemma...
We were given a Groupon for a one-night stay at a lodge about 30 minutes northeast of Duluth. We don't want to go all the way up there for just one night so we were thinking of either doing a night in Duluth or a night somewhere on the way up there to break the driving up a bit. Any ideas? We just did Duluth in October... DH mentioned staying at one of the casinos on the way but I'm not so sure about that idea...
What would you do? :-) Do you know of any nice places to stay? Maybe a cute little town that would be fun for a day? We're going mid-May.

Due to the Groupon popularity it is booked solid on Saturdays (we're staying Sunday night) until the day the Groupon expires. That was our first thought too..
We just used our groupon for their last weekend and did a Saturday and Sunday night stay. They do offer discounted stays on the second night. If there is a way you can swing two nights, I totally would. My husband took Monday off from work to make it work for us. I know a lot depends on your vacation time.
Bummer! Well I know the casino idea doesn't sound that great, but maybe check it out? They sometimes have good shows.

Was it the Cove Point Lodge? Did you like it?
We're already taking Monday off and all of the Saturday nights are booked so we can only do one night there. :-(
Grand Casino in Hinckley has a new spa, so that might be worth checking out...
Here is the link: Grand Harmony Spa
It's not exactly close to where you will be, but on the way home! I have heard good things about it!

Whoah. Grand Casino Hinckley hotel is booked solid. Jeez Louise.
I don't want to drive 3.5 hours for one night but we might have to. We could leave really early Sunday morning and check out Split Rock light house and goosberry falls and stuff.
Booked solid. Booooooo.
Just kidding...

Sorry, I read quickly and realized that you already were taking a day off after I responded. Yes. We have been going up to Cove Point for a while now. It is a nice get away. All rooms face the lake and we had a fireplace too. We spent time swimming and just putzing around. We brought our daughter so it wasn't a romantic weekend for us, but it was fun. We also did go to Gooseberry and walked around the beach area. I am not too mobile right now- 6 months pregnant- but we made the best of what we could do with the ice.
You will have a nice time.
Great minds think alike! :-) I would LOVE a spa day...
I wish we weren't working with an expiration date.
My sister had bought the Groupon to use with her boyfriend but seeing as she dumped him 3 days ago she won't be needing it. So we're going instead.
Bummer. Wasn't this one one that you liked and she'd been seeing a while?

We've been to Larsmont and it's great! We've only been in the summer, but still it's a great place. I would definitely recommend the place.
They had dated maybe 5-6 months. She started dating him fairly quickly after her last boyfriend who lasted 1.5 years.
This last one that just ended swept her off her feet and they were just GAGA for each other. The flame quickly burned out though and then she felt smothered. He is really bummed but she is actually kind of relieved.
It's petty of me but I want one of these guys to stick so I can help her plan her wedding already!
Only if the guy is right, of course....
Know any cute single 25 year old guys? :-)
Gah, 2 night stay required! We only need 1! :-(
It looks really nice though...I'll keep it in mind for the future!
