dividing up the chores?

I'm just curious about how you ladies divvy up the chores in your home. Do you make a list of what each person is responsible for, or do you just decide who does what whenever one of you decides the house needs to be cleaned? For example, my FH and I have tried to be organized and make a list of things each person is responsible for, but that kind of failed. So now whenever someone notices that the apartment needs cleaning, i.e. me, we "decide" what each person will do (meaning i tell my fiance what to cleanStick out tongue) Usually this works, sometimes it ends up in little spats about little things like him not putting hid dishes in the dishwasher when he is done.

Re: dividing up the chores?

  • Fortunately SO and I are both clean freaks and usually do what we call "power cleans" and tag team the entire house every Sunday.

As far as taking out the trash, doing dishes, laundry etc it usually gets taken care of it as it needs to be by whoever notices.

    He does NOTHING.

He pays all the bills so I guess he figures that's enough. I suppose it could be worse.

  • DH always does the dishes and takes out the trash.  I always do the bathroom.  We basically take the chores the other can't stand to do.

We also tag team a lot such as dusting or mopping (we have old hardwoods).

  • DH does the lawn (he mows, and I tell him when it's time to fertilize)

We have an "every other" rotation with the dishes.

Dh is in charge of keeping the basement clean.

    Dh does his own laundry.

Otherwise I do everything else, but it's ok because then it's done my way and when I can do it.  I do all of the reorganizing and closet cleaning, but again that's ok, becuase I LIVE for reorganizing and decluttering. lol

  • There are some unwritten rules in our house lol. My husband always takes out the garbage and takes the can out of garbage nights.

I love to unload the dishwasher lol.

We usually write a list of everything we need to get done and then put our initials by the chore so we know who is doing what. It works for us

  • If I cook, DH does the dishes, and vice versa.  I wash clothes and he folds them.  He takes out the trash always.  We live with his grandfather and he has cleaning ladies that come every two weeks.

Every couple of months we'll take on a cleaning project some where in the apartment.  Its not our place, but its difficult to live here, so we reorganize whenever we can.  His mother also stays with us in the summer so that merits cleaning on both our parts.
