Thunderbolt & Phones?
Anyone have it? I've been waiting for it to come and I think I am going to go look at phones today. I just really don't want to pay $30/mth for data.
Do you love your phone? What do you have? Do you have a limited or unlimited data plan?
Re: Thunderbolt & Phones?
We just stepped into the world of SmartPhones a couple of weeks ago. Our contract was up and our prior phones were both complete POS's.
I fought the SmartPhone thing too because I hated the idea of the HUGE increase in monthly cost. I also, however, didn't want to buy another POS and be stuck with it for 2 more years.
So anyhow... when we went into Verizon they informed us that because we were "Alltel Legacy Customers" (meaning we were Alltel and became Verizon when they merged), that we were able to get price plans that were available to Alltel customers at the time that the merger happened. So instead of our bill going up about $75/month like I thought it would, it only went up $40, and we have earlier night/weekend hours, unlimited text and unlimited data, plus we keep our "friends & family" numbers.
Ok, now on to the phones...
DH got the iPhone and he basically thinks it's the best thing ever in the universe. I think it's pretty cool, but I prefer my phone, which is the Droid X. It's bigger than the iPhone, but I liked that because my fat fingers have trouble hitting the keys on the qwerty keyboards, and the "keys" on the screen are bigger. It also has a talk to type feature where I can talk and it types it out, which I really like. I probably only use half of the features it offers, but I seriously love it. I love that I can check an e-mail or look up an address while I'm out and about. I love that it has a halfway decent camera and a video camera too. I love that there are apps for just about anything you can think of... I can play games, find cheap gas, keep a notepad, identify constellations, get directions... and the list goes on and on.
We spent more than I wanted to on phones, but I really do think it was worth it.

Sorry this is so long... but l let me know if you have any other questions.
Rock ~ good to know because I had been looking at that phone before the thunderbolt came out. I have the alias2 now and love my slide out keyboard.
Merin ~ going to email you because I too was an alltel customer and want to see what exactly they did for you.
Jen-
Have you switched to an official Verizon plan yet? After you make the switch to an official "Verizon" plan you no longer qualify for Alltel prices..FYI.
We went in and upgraded to BB's last year and while in the store the women told us she could keep us on Alltel or switch us to a verizon. For us it was better for us to stay on Alltel but after you get more then two smart phones on a line (ie my mom is on ours but she doesn't have a smart phone) then it is sometimes better to go with Verizon. We currently pay around $150 for unlimited text, talk within verizon network and we don't even touch the minutes we have. I think we have like 700 and we actually were able to go down in our monthly phone minutes because nether of us did that. Have them run all the options for you. Verizon does NOT offer a unlimited text with your plan. You have to add it (I think it was $10.00 per line).
Forgot to add. DH and I just went from Blackberries to a Droid Incredible...and it is in fact Incredible. I (like Rock) thought I was gonna have a hard time with the keyboard but my intern showed me the "voice" feature. I speak into that and it converts it to text for me if I've got something short.
It's pretty responsive too for the actual texting. That said they only problem I have is that it is kinda awkward to actually call someone. I mean it's easy enough but I'm still on a learning curve.
That said the Ap's are amazing on the smart phones and the Driod blows the Blackberry out of the water.
We bought our driods off craigslist. I would say that $200 is pretty standard for the outright phone. Some are selling cheaper cause they all want Iphones.
