aerotek follow up

So I took your advice and contacted a recruiter on aerotek. I found the job positing on their website that I thought was a good fit, and contacted the recruiter listed for the job. She replied, one sentence, "send me your resume". I emailed her my resume right away, also explained the types of jobs I am looking at. That was Tuesday. I didn't hear back. I emailed her again Thursday  asking the status and about the process, if I should contact them or what? Haven't heard a thing.

How do you work with a recruiter?  I also filled out the information/account page on their website. what should I do next?

Re: aerotek follow up

  • She is a bad recruiter.  Call their main office and ask to speak with another one who works with the same industry.  Aerotek is broken up into different groups - some recruiters are technical, some construction, some scientific, etc.

I wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket though.  Contact other agencies and look at the career websites for different companies.

If she doesn't call you back, don't put too much thought into it.  To be honest, Aerotek hires very young (just out of college) kids who don't have industry experience.  If you are TRULY a fit for the job and they TRULY have the position to fill, she'll contact you.

I worked there for a long time, was promoted there, etc.

  • Thank you!! I'll wait til Monday, and contact their office to see if I could talk to a scientific recruiter. That was helpful advice thanks!!
  • I worked at Aerotek for years.  They are actually one of the better agencies.  The problem with all agency recruiters is that they need to have a job to match you up with before they will spend time with you.  They all go 100 MPH. Basically your resume sits in a database until one of the recruiters matches you with a job, then they contact you, screen you for a job and get you an interview directly with the hireing manager (by passing the company HR team).  Just try your best to develop a personal relationship with your recruiter and he or she will remember you when a good job does pop up.  GL

  • ^ I am trying to develop a connection but she doesn't seem interested at all. I briefly introduced myself and explain what kinds of jobs I am interested in (an companies) and all I got back was "send your resume as word file" not a word more or less and never got a response to my follow up emails...I'll keep trying. thanks you guys.

  • I do not think she is a bad recruiter; I get 200+ resumes per day and currently am working on 25 openings; I currently work for a direct hire company now; so do corporate recruiting, but have also worked in staffing/for a head hunting agency.  I can honestly tell you that clients have very specific requirements; when I got a resume that matched those requirements I contacted the applicant right away. If every recruiter spent time speaking with every candidate who called and didn't send a resume we would spend all day doing so.  Also, 8 out of 10 times people call and say they have certain experience and when their resume comes they really do not. I would recommend sending the resume and then follow up with them via email.  Recruiters want to fill the jobs quickly and with the right candidates. Good Luck with your search.
