should walls be "washed" before painting?
how do you wash a wall? just take a wet sponge to it?
Re: should walls be "washed" before painting?
My DH and I used to work for a national homebuilder. He was out in the field so saw what the cleaners used and they like TSP (DH buys it at HD or Lowes). You just mix w/water. If you had smokers or a fireplace, etc... (and since I responded to your previous post I know it's been vacant for a while so you'll have lots of dust) the TSP will help to "eat through" all the gunk that may be on the wall that you don't really see. It will help the paint to adhere to the walls. It's a pain and boring and takes forever but it is so worth it when your paint isn't peeling 2 years later :-)
Also, if you don't wash your walls, whatever is on them will show through the new paint.
Use a mop with a sponge. As opposed to the traditional octopus looking ones. (I dont know what they're actually called.)
