Pulling up a bush

Anyone got any tips on pulling up bushes?  We have 4 bushes in our front yard that came with our home.  We want to pull them up and replace them with something prettier.  Any tips? This isn't going to be easy, right?

Re: Pulling up a bush

  • Good question.  I have a few that have died and need to be replaced but I don't know what I'm doing out there so I keep putting it off.

  • Ive done this. I HATED the bushes the builder put. I remember I was 8 months pregnant and "helping" DH put up christmas lights up. I decided right there and then that I wanted the bushes yanked out. DH didn't want to mess with digging them up so he just backed up his truck tied some rope around the bottom of 'em and yanked them up. Not the best way but it gone done.
  • We have a pitchfork that has helped me with pulling up lots of things, although I used a shovel and hatchet to get a giant tree stump up.
  • We just did this today (and by we I mean DH). He used one of these, a hatchet and a rope. It took him all day but they are out and it looks much better.
  • Ha!  We pulled up 10 today!  We used a tow strap and DH's truck, and it took less than 30 minutes.  DH has a F-250 4x4 though...

  • I've seen the truck idea go very, very wrong .... the bush ended up on the hood of the truck, and it hit hard ...

How the heck did it hit the hood of the truck?  Tie it to the back bumper and pull slow...
