C25K follow up, Shoes?

I've done the first two weeks and then always flake out since I'm hurting everywhere.  Maybe it is my shoes.

Where is the Metro do you ladies go to get running shoes?  How much am I looking at spending?

Re: C25K follow up, Shoes?

  • I just got some Asics with a Groupon.  They retail for $100 and I got them for $75.

You should go get fitted at a running store:  Running Room, Marathon Sports.... there are others but the names are escaping me.

  • I went to Runner's Gate in Lakeville and spent $140, but I've heard a lot of good things about Marathon Sports in Mpls

  • I've been to Finish Line in Minnetonka and Running Room in Uptown.  I got some Asics Gel Nimbus and spent about $120 or so.

  • Run n Fun on Randolph in St Paul

They are super helpful and you can even run outside or on a treadmill before you buy to make sure the shoes work for you!

I would expect to pay about $100-115.

  • Great question!  I really need to get some fitted running shoes.  Last time I seriously started running I got horrible shin pains.  I've been told to go to a running store, not a big chain like Sports Authority, etc.  Friends and family have told me that you will probably spend a lot the first time, but once you know the shoe that works for you you can look for deals and specials.

  • If you like New Balance, go to a New Balance store.   They are owned by Schuler's and the sales people are very knowlegable and take the time to actually fit you with shoes.   You can also go to the New Balance website and enter in some info (like what type of running, miles, foot type, ect) and it will recommend a shoe for you.

  • Definitely go get fitted at a specialty shop, not a mall store or big place like D*cks o Sports Authority.

I went to Marathon Sports in S. Mpls and had a great experience. I have also heard great things about Gear West in Long Lake near Lake Minnetonka.

The type of shoes are going to be different for everyone depending on your stride, foot strike, etc.

We go to Finish LIne and love it.  We weren't happy with the running room in Maple Grove.
