First, I just want to say that your messages on my original post meant so so so much to me. You are all so wonderful and truly made my day.
Well, she's here! And she is a LOVE. She immediately took to both of us and all she wants to do is cuddle and kiss you. She's so tiny (at least to what I'm used to) and is going to make a family very very happy.
Intros with the boys were ok... Brody couldn't care less and they would walk around the yard fine together but then if we stopped to let them sniff each other she would get a little tiffy. I'm also wondering if she's in heat (or pregnant... god help me) which made her that much more touchy with him because she got most annoyed when he was smelling her.
Capone's intro wasn't as good and that's probably more our fault than theirs. I had a brilliant plan of just walking them around for a bit but they both pulled to each other right away and got a little snarly. I KNOW it's because Capone was on a leash - he hates it and feels so vulnerable because he's absolutely fine at daycare and the dogpark.
So we decided to give it a rest - she's had a crazy busy day anyways and is sick so we went inside and I showed her her room and her crate (which she's still a little apprehensive of... I'm glad I've got all day tomorrow). I then laid down on the floor at the door of the crate and she came and curled up right inside my chest and we fell asleep for about an hour, with my arm around her like a teddy bear. Adorable.
Right now, she's asleep on the floor while I'm chilling in the spare bedroom with her (ummm... and I haven't seen my husband all week). She's SO gentle and had no food issues with me - I was feeding her right out of my hand and putting my hand in her dish with no problem whatsoever.
It's bath time tomorrow (she stinks!) and then I've got to figure out what her heat condition is...
All in all, not bad. We're just doing a lot of crate (room) and rotate right now - the boys got rawhides and are hanging with dad in the other room. I haven't showered yet today because I've been running around like a lunatic and am now not wanting to leave her alone... and I always wondered why moms didn't have time to shower with a newborn. I get it now. ![]()
So, if you know anyone looking for an amazing little girl with a ton of love to give, let me know! Either message me on fb or email me at adogslove@gmail.com
Re: She's here!
Oh and I'm dying to come up with a different name... Diamond is a mouthful and she doesn't respond to it anyways.
Any suggestions? I was thinking Darla.
It is so great that she is getting settled. Good for you taking her in when she needed love.
Darla was DH's aunts name, she passed away 4 years ago today.
Hmmm, that seems somewhat cosmic. I say go with it.
Good for you for doing this; you've saved her life and shown her that she can be loved. I'm sure you'll find a wonderful home for her, and make her very happy in the meantime.
Yay!! Good luck on the heat/pregnancy status. My friend recently got this same breed and he is a doll. She seems like such a darling.
I think you should definitely change her name, since you are changing her life
