Need a part-time job

I need to find a part-time job to earn some extra money, mainly because I will have a gap in employment from mid-May to mid-July. I live in Ankeny, so would prefer something here but would consider something further if the pay & hours were worth it. I could start now, evenings and weekends, or work anytime starting May 16.

Ideally, I don't want to work somewhere where I'd have a lot of contact with the local public (e.g., restaurant server, grocery store clerk) because I don't want to chance running into former clients in a setting in which I would be serving them.

I think I'd like something like working at a hotel front desk (or maybe even housekeeping?) or being a receptionist. I don't think I'd mind doing pizza delivery but I don't want to put the wear & tear on my car.

Any ideas about places to consider or places you know are hiring?

I'll probably DD this eventually (not immediately though), just so this info isn't floating out there in cyberspace. TIA!

  • Holiday Inn Express in Ankeny may be hiring. Otherwise, their new hotel in Urbandale is set to open the beginning of May. Just fill out an application at the Ankeny location and if you are intersted in the Urbandale location, just let Jeff or Nick know. They are a great company to work for!

Most of the hotels in the Des Moines area do not staff evening housekeeping, but it is a possibility that you could do weekends.

For evening receptionist positions, look into the hospitals or clinics.

Thanks for the heads up on Holiday Inn!  And I had not even thought about looking into hospitals, etc. Thanks, I will definitely look into those options!!

  • No problem! If you are thinking about the hotel, I'd get your application in as soon as possible though as they've already completed 2 weekends of job fairs. I'm at a sister property so I don't know all the details, but I'm sure some positions have already been offered. (For my property, we were hired about 2 months before they opened.)

You might try a temp agency. They have evening shifts available too. DH went through an agency when he lost his FT job and they had an evening shift job offer for clerical-type work for well above minimum wage within a week or so of signing up with them. (Although he turned it down and waited a few more weeks for a day shift to open up). Not sure if they handle PT jobs, but it couldn't hurt to look into.
