Activities for lo

When did you start your lo in extra activities, like dance? The awesome thing about Reese's Montessori is that they bring all of the activities to the school, so you don't have to dry your kids all over! They offer dance, tumbling, gymnastics, soccer, music lessons and golf. I'm thinking about enrolling Reese in some activity, but not sure if 2 is too young!

If I were in a position to enroll Nicholas in something right now, it would be tumbling. If she has a better attention span than he does (today he told me he has a "purple attention span", which must be the color of 3 seconds), dance or music sound good at this age too.
  • We're waiting until age 4. Cohen gets enough (imo, anyway) physical and educational stimulation at daycare. We figure we have the next 15+ years to be driving our kids to activities. May as well enjoy one more year of simplicity.
Happy mom to two sweet, silly boys: Cohen age 4, AJ age 2.
  • Age 3 is when they can start things like that here. We did music together classes when she was younger though.

  • We are starting Sophia this summer, so just after turning 3.  I would have been okay enrolling her at 2, but only in one thing, as I'd hate for her to be over-involved already.  As it is she will do soccer in June, swimming at the end of June/beginning of July, and then dance starting in September and going through the school year.  At least this year I'm trying to limit it to one physical activity at a time so as not to wear her out.  My niece's kids are involved year round in several sports and it just seems like they never have a break for their little bodies to rest.

  • Thanks ladies! I think we're going to hold off until the fall. I thought 2 seemed young, but some of the activities they start at 18 months! They have music class and spanish class as part of their normal curriculum, so I think we'll either do soccer or dance/tumbling. And I completely agree with Lucy about being over involved! That's part if the reason why the Montessori brings activities in house! The incorporate them into their day so the kids aren't running around all evening, after school!
