We Put Him Down :(
He wasn't eating at all today and was in a lot of pain and having trouble breathing, so we brought him to the ER and the vet said she thought he was probably misdiagnosed and had either cancer or kidney failure. She gave us a 10% chance treatment actually helping him, so we decided to put him down. I was a sobbing mess but I couldn't stand to see him in pain and didn't want to continue his pain for a 10% chance - it hurt him when I petted him and I could hear him breathing all the way across the room. Poor guy. He was my buddy for 13 years. I'm so sad right now.

I just saw this on FB. I'm so sorry, Kristen. And it sounds like his last gift to you was to make it very clear that he was okay with the decision to let him go.
13 years of great times and a lot of love... RIP, Tom.

This makes me so sad. It sounds like he lived a nice long happy life...not that it makes it any easier when saying goodbye.
