Happy Monday!

How was your weekend?

Mine was pretty good! We found out how much we're getting back from taxes on Friday (WOO-HOO!); had delicious sushi and far too much to drink while celebrating a friend's birthday on Saturday; and I spent most of yesterday on the couch, nursing my hangover.

Re: Happy Monday!

  • Morning!

Weekend wasn't bad. Looked at flooring for the house (and realized it's going to cost far more than we'll ever have!), I went to the outlets to do some shopping, we went to the hockey game Friday night, that was about as exciting as it got!

  • Good morning!

My weekend was good :) The H and I deep cleaned the house on Saturday, went to a BBQ with a bunch of our friends to celebrate homecoming. Sunday we lazed around the house, did some cooking, relaxed!

  • My OB put me on bedrest last week, so my weekend consisted of laying around the house, beggind DH to do all the little things I'd planned on doing but wasn't supposed to...lol. I also watched a lot of TV and spent a lot of time online chatting with old friends from college and back home, which was kind of nice.

  • I had a great weekend!

well...almost...I had a horrible horrible stomach ache friday night, which consisted of me curled up on the kitchen floor while screaming. I've gotten these stomach aches for a long time (since I was 8 or so?), and the only thing I can think of is that I didn't eat enough that day.

Saturday, I had an awesome 3 mile run with two of my friends, went shopping for a birthday dress, and threw my first ever dinner party! I made roasted chicken, roasted veggies and mashed potatoes. I was so proud of myself!

Sunday, DH and I stayed in bed until 9, which was amazing, then did laundry and had dinner at my parents.

    Yikes!  That's intense :(

Had a low key weekend around here.  H worked Saturday and Sunday so I loafed around the house and read.

  • Boo Monday! The weekend was nice, DH worked all day Saturday and we vegged out when he got home, and yesterday we stayed in bed dozing until, well, almost lunchtime. Haven't done that in a loooong time. We had declared it a lazy day in advance. We went out to lunch and then looked at an apartment and got ice cream!

Yay for taxes, Nor! We're getting some money back too, I am so excited! It'll take care of our security deposit when we move this summer.

  • Hardwood. Which seems redundant, because we already have hardwood floors. They were here when we tore up the carpeting (we knew that it was there prior to ripping up the flooring). But there are a couple of planks chewed up from old termite damage. And there is a large rectangle piece of plywood (it's thicker than that, but that's all I can think to describe it) next to the fireplace where the heating vent USED to be. They put the piece of wood in when they put in duct work and put in the carpeting (we assume). We thought we could get a good deal on getting all new flooring, but I think we're back to square one: finding someone to replace the busted planks and rectangle o' plywood and refinish them (they are unfinished). They creak badly and are uneven in some places, but this may be our best option. Not that we know how much that will cost us either.

Basically, we are SOL on flooring right now. I forget about the chewed up planks and walk right over them (occassionally my pj pants get snagged on a gnarly piece of wood and I have to fight to get it back unharmed), but DH pointed out that if we ever manage to have a LO that we can't have them crawling around on a floor with holes and rough pieces of broken wood. So....that's the story of our flooring. *sigh*

Have the floors ever been stained or refinished? That will probably make a HUGE difference. Also, I bet whoever does your refinishing will be able to take a few similar-looking pieces, stain them, and make them match really well.

As for being creaky and uneven, that should be a relatively simple fix (as long as the unevenness isn't a symptom of a bigger problem, but it shouldn't be). I think creaking just means the board has come loose from the support and needs a small nail? Unevenness is similar, I think. Most of my flooring experience is tile and coming from a commercial facility standpoint, but the moral of my story is - what you're planning on doing should look really great AND be much more inexpensive than totally new floors.

Also, as long as the wood is thick enough (so it can be refinished multiple times, if needed), those floors will last forever!
