Did you see?
E-mail is now email? Drive-through is now drive-thru?
Is anyone as fired up about these changes as I am? And if you are are, do you ever sit back and realize that they have little to no effect on 95 percent on the population?
Re: AP Style nerds
The e-mail one is driving me crazy, because I do it with the -.
Maybe that can be my t-shirt slogan. I DO IT with a -
I want one!
E-mail is incorrect now. All references should be "email."
I am so not on board with this.
For what it's worth, e-reader, e-media, e-books, e-publishing, etc., still have the hyphen.
But I know ... it sort of makes my teeth hurt, too. Don't even get me started on the sheer laziness of "drive-thru."
"Email" has been "email" in my world for probably the past 6 years. Guess we were ahead of the official trend... I remember when the official user study came out and we had to go through and update ever instance of it online. That was a pain. Heh.
Drive-thru. Yeah. That one's weird.
LMAO, because in my world, "ahead of the official trend" is great spin for "wrong."
AP Style nerd here!!
I am very excited about the change to "email." I was ecstatic about "Web site" becoming "website." I am puzzled though by the change from "Calcutta" to "Kolkata."
Good to know. I wonder why it took so long for them to change it.
I hadn't heard about drive-thru. That's horrible.
I love email though, because seriously does anyone ever really think of it as an abbreviation for electronic mail anymore?
Smartphone I like (my God, I've wrestled with that one so many times lately!) but cellphone as one word seems kinda odd to me.
I like changes that make us not look like we're living in the stone age and have readers thinking we're wrong. Like capitalizing internet? Puh-leeze, stupit.
that's what i was gonna say....
haha. Totally. And I'm sure we paid big bucks to figure out what 'people' were calling it and doing at the time. Cracks me up.
