Anyone ever been to Asheville, NC?

DH and I are thinking of getting a cabin somewhere along Asheville, NC sometime in June. If you've been to Asheville, what did you do? Any recs? If you've stayed in a cabin in/around Asheville, I could really use some recommendations. I searched online for hours the other day, but it's so hard to tell what's going to be good or not.

Re: Anyone ever been to Asheville, NC?

  • I live in Asheville! I've never stayed in a cabin here before though so I'm not going to be much help there. I know of some great bed and breakfasts, however, if you can't find a cabin you like and decide to explore that option lol There's a lot to do here depending on what you and your DH's idea of a good time is. If you enjoy the outdoors there is whitewater rafting, hiking, zipline canopy tours, a 'beach' at Lake Lure close by, and Chimney Rock state park with its scenic overlook. Asheville is also home to the Biltmore Estate which if you haven't been here and visited before I highly suggest the tour...it's worth the money. There's also the arboretum and botanical gardens, ghost tours, Tourists baseball games, Biltmore winery for free wine tasting, LaZoom comedy tour that gives history of the area and a show at the same time, art museums, pub crawls, and lots of shopping downtown that's primarily locally-owned businesses and hand made crafts. You might also want to check out Grove Park Inn. It's where celebs and the president stays when he visits. Even if you're not staying there you can drive up and check it out since they're used to that. They have an amazing award-winning underground spa and nightly entertainment and bar/dining areas you can still utilize without being a guest. If you like live music The Orange Peel always has a diverse group of artists performing. Also Asheville is known for its selection of microbrews made here in the area and depending on when you're coming in June they have a big Beer City Festival where you can sample all the different brews (there is so much beer I can't describe!) and listen to live rock & roll music. Okay it looks like I'm writing a brochure now so I'm going to stop haha If you have any other questions let me know!

  • I also recommend Early Girl Eatery and Tupalo Honey Cafe.
