Moms: Easter Basket

Where did you get your Easter basket? Half of me wants to get him a nice one that will last for years and half of me wants to get a cheapo one like I had as a kid.

But really...I'm not going to spend $50 on an Easter basket (like the girls on the national boards).

Re: Moms: Easter Basket

  • I had the same delimma. I didn't even get him one last year because we aren't big on Easter in our family and I didn't think he was old enough to get into it. (Although I ended up feeling bad about once I saw/heard about others cute little ones with their baskets.)

Anyway, this year I am using a beach pail as his basket. I figured he needed one anyway and didn't want to spend the money on something fancy and have to store it or something cheap I would just throw away.

I will probably keep an eye out for a nice one on post-Easter sale to use in the future.

  • I got a cute plush pink bunny Easter basket from AC Moore. I was going to get a Pottery Barn one, but I remember my mom always getting us a new basket every year. When I was younger they were the cheap ones, as I got older they were things like Caboodles etc. DH says his basket was like his Xmas stocking, he had the same one his entire childhood, so we had a funny conversation about that b/c that wasn't what we did so it seemed odd :)

We're putting treats that Caroline currently likes like a banana, an orange, maybe some MUMS, bubbles, and maybe another trinket/toy/whatever.

  • We didn't get Josh a basket last year as he didn't get the concept of easter but he has one this year and its a Toy Story themed basket/bucket...I remember getting a new basket each year until a certain point and then my mom got smart and got us a wicker laundry basket and used that each year going forward...

Josh will have things that he likes snack wise in his as well as some crayons and coloring stuff (his new favorite hobby) and maybe some summer fun toys.

  • Honestly, I didn't even think about it at all last year. I just figured he was too young. He ended up getting two from his Aunties :) Both came from target and are super cute (I will use them again this year) one was a monkey and one was a bunny. I think they were like $1, but they are felt and sooo adorable. I will use them also for baby #2 next year.

  • I second Target!  None of the baskets are huge, but how big do they need to be at this age?  I got Owen one last year that was a "real" basket with a cute fabric liner, and I'm certain it was under $10.  I'll get him something bigger this year, and use the little one for Ellie.  (I wouldn't bother with something for Ellie, except that Owen will notice...I guess she'll get a book and maybe a new pacifier and toy or something.  Last year Owen got the FP Little People Easter set from Target, a book about ducklings, and some plastic eggs full of puffs, cheerios, yogurt melts, etc.  This year he'll probably get some chocolate, but also yogurt melts, animal crackers and/or Annie's bunnies, a book, and maybe a train accessory for his train set...I'm not sure.  Depends on what he gets for his birthday.)

I wish I still had my childhood Easter basket!  It was my dad's when he was a kid.

  • I just went to Target and they had some cute options.

I know he won't know...but I know...and I want him to have one. I am going to put in a couple books, maybe a onesie and a bib, some bathtime stuff.

  • oh, I'm adding the Tale of Peter Rabbit board book in there too :)
  • Helen has a $3 basket from Walmart that I bought for her first Easter.  It's pink and it has a ribbon trim around the edge of the basket and it won't break my heart if she sits on it and breaks it.

For her first Easter we just put empty plastic eggs in it and she thought they were great!  Last year she got candy in the plastic eggs.  I bought some candy and a Veggie Tales Easter DVD to give to her this year.  When I was a kid we sometimes got a book or stuffed animal in our basket but it was mostly just candy.  With DD's birthday a month after Easter, I'm not about to turn Easter into a massive gift-giving holiday.

I hadn't thought of that! Abe would love those eggs!

Yeah, after this year she'll get candy. Easter was all about candy and not gifts, besides a new dress. With Caroline's b-day (on Easter last year) and closeby she doesn't need gifts right near!

  • I totally splurged on a PB basket with her name on the pink gingham liner.  I will absolutely use this every single year - even if it's broken.  :-)  I wish I had purchased it in the after sale last year, but alas, I didn't.

In her basket I have a board book called The Story of Easter that I bought at a consignment store.  She also is going to get plastic eggs filled with stuff (cheerios, goldfish, grapes, etc).  I also got a radio flyer ride on that I may give her, but will probably wait.

  • Hmmmm....I know that my MIL will be SPOILING him with things he probably doesn't need right now so we'll do a small basket and maybe try a little hunt with him.   My family usually does candy/snacks and coins for piggy banks in the eggs.  So we'll do puffs, cheerios, etc. and some coins around the living room where he can crawl and look for them.  Also, a super cute Easter outfit and embarrasing pictures with bunny ears.   :)

We didn't do a basket last year, but IL's did (a sand pail).  We'll be in CT this year for Greek Easter; I think I might put together something small for him.  I think I'm going to get one of thsoe $2 felt baskets from Target.  Eventually I'll probably get him his own basket that we'll use every year - that's what we had growing up.

  • I got Katie a little $2.50 basket at Target (it's not too Easter-y, so I can reuse it for something else), since I'm a total cheapskate and will buy her "real" one on clearance once Easter is over.  I can't see spending twice the amount on a basket for an infant, esp where I can get it at least 1/2 price in a few weeks.

  • I doubt we will get her a basket because I'm sure my MIL will. I think we are just going to get Lily a couple of books and maybe a stuffed bunny. I love the plastic eggs idea! I might get her some of those and put some Cheerios in them.

Our friend just bought Luke one of these!! I'll have to bring it over next time and the two of them can ride together :) Careful, if you got it at LLBean, they reek of camp fire??? We had to put it in the garage cause it was stinking up the house.
