It's weird that Shea posted a question about this already today. We have lived in our house for almost 5 years and I've never fully cleaned the oven.
Aside from picking up chunks of food and wiping in down here and there and using those foil catchy things in the bottom.
So today I thought I would run the self cleaning feature on it. Big mistake. Um, is this even safe?? Before I knew it my house smelled so horrible and my eyes started burning. About 20 minutes later my cats started acting funny and I turned it off. Now I have every window open and every fan going (brrr!). My concern is that Cam is here with me today. Do I need to be worried?
I won't be doing that again. I don't like to use oven cleaners either because of those fumes. Does anyone have any natural ways to get an oven clean?
Re: S/O to cleaning the oven. I feel so dumb.
Yeah, I think it gets to like 900 degrees or something crazy like that. It's better in here now and we're both still alive
That was just a horrible smell. It doesn't seem like you should be breathing it in. But I would never leave my house with an oven that hot either.
Shea's post and your post made me realize I need to clean my oven so I did some research and found this blog post on homemade (and non-toxic) oven cleaners. I'm going to try cleaner #1 out this weekend.

Wow, I didn't realize they got so hot! I don't know how long of a setting my parents' oven had, but we would always be home until it started to stink, then we'd go to the grocery store or something while it finished. That seems super dangerous in hindsight!
