With baby #2 on the way, we'll be turning our current guest room into a nursery. We have a rather large attic that has been divided into an office and another, separate room. It's small, with slanted ceilings, but totally usable as our new guest room.
Cons are the slanted ceiling and the fact that you have to climb some pretty steep steps (they're real though, not a pull down ladder type thing) to get up there. Our parents, the people who will be using the guest room the most, are not only getting old, but my dad is 6'4". So, needless to say, the space is not ideal, but part of me feels like we're trying and this is what we've got. If it's that much of an issue, they can stay in a hotel, right?
Anyway, since we're going to have to buy a new bed for that space eventually, I was thinking it would be nice of us to get a queen size versus a full. That way they'll at least be a little more comfortable? It's not like there will be much other furniture to have to work around... Does this make sense? Do you agree?
AND if we do get the queen, I'm thinking about getting it through IKEA. Anyone every buy a mattress there? Thanks!
Re: need help on planning our new guest room
offering up a guest room is really nice. and you're right, if it's a big issue they can stay in a hotel.
i bought an ikea mattress when i moved to NYC in 2000 and it was in good shape when i gave it to a friend in 2004. they have more/better options for mattresses now too.
No experience w/ Ikea, but we had to cut the boxspring in order to get it into our old apartment. Now, we've got a Select Comfort (Sleep Number) bed, and the "box spring" / frame part that we have is modular, and just clicks together. My parents have an adjustable base... not sure if that came in separate pieces.
But, this might be another option for you.
