Have we had discussions about tonsils and behavioral issues?

Or am I imagining this?

If you have seen some of my FB statuses as of late, Lily has been HORRIBLE lately! Horrible temper tantrums if she doesn't get her way. The littlest things seem to set her off...Sometimes I think she is over tired, esp. on school days so I try to have her relax as much as possible on those afternoons...Sometimes I think I'd like to have her nap, but know she would never fall asleep and then would def. not fall asleep at night...She is not spoiled so it's not like she is hearing no for the first time and doesn't want to hear it...I don't know...I am at my wits end with her lately.

She has her 4 year check up thursday so I am going to talk to the doctor about it...

But, why I am asking about the tonsil thing is that when we were there on saturday to have her ear checked the doctor said she had big tonsils...and asked if she snored, but she doesn't so she said it wasn't anything to be concerned about then...

I am also going to ask about her ears...I don't think she has had enough ear infections that they would suggest tubes (they haven't yet) but I wonder is she has some hearing loss...and she has to have her eyes checked again b/c she did poorly on the child outreach screening...

I don't know...maybe I am grasping at straws but I don't know what else to do with her...Zoe was never like this so...I'm at a loss...

Re: Have we had discussions about tonsils and behavioral issues?

  • I don't recall this being talked about.

I just know   4 is a very trying age..and if my once sweet little girl doesn't return she may not make it to 5!  lol...We have tantrums now over everything..I would take 2 back any day..that was a piece of cake.   The baby on the other hand..the terrible 2's are in full swing with that one.  I am in for it :O

Keep us posted on what you find out

  • one of the girls i babysat for was about a year older than lily when she had her tonsils and adenoids out. she was a little sweetheart but for the few months before her surgery she wasn't sleeping well/at all and was like a completely different kid - always cranky, lots of attitude and tantrums. not sure if this helps but i know that once she recovered from surgery, she was back to her usual sweet self.

  • THANK YOU JERRAH! 49 views and no responses, I was starting to feel like an idiot...

Yeah, I may have imagined it...

I feel bad b/c when she's good, she's great, but when she throws a fit it's beyond ridiculous and I have no idea what to do anymore...

  • I've been trying to search and see if there was a previous post about this, but I haven't found one. I've seen tonsil/illness posts, but nothing about behavior.

  • Maybe that's what I was thinking about...tonsils/adnoids coming out...but the doctor asked if she snored but she doesn't and she seems to sleep fine...UGH! I'll ask on thursday...
  • Elisabeth, There was definitely a post about tonsils being related to something else...I just can't remember what it was...maybe it was Pam who posted it regarding Tristan and his therapy...??? maybe???
  • I remember Pam posted a correlation between strep & OCD behavior. But, aside from recurring illnesses etc. clearing up post tonsil-adenoid removal, I just haven't been able to find the post that you ladies are remembering. Perhaps if there was one, it was deleted?

  • I was thinking of the one about the strep/OCD.  I couldn't remember exactly what it was though but I knew it was tonsils and behavior.
  • Here is Pam's initial post w/ the strep-ocd correlation: http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/49063227.aspx

Here's her post linking to articles: http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/49070253.aspx

  • If you google it, it looks like there are a ton of articles from "real" sources that link tonsils and behavior problems.  Good luck!

Our baby girl was born on April 27, 2011!
  • Thanks so much ladies! In googling it seems like it is also linked to speech issues which Lily also has...I can't wait to talk to her doctor on Thursday now!!!
  • Before tonsilgate of 07, I have ALWAYS had big tonsils, but my mom always said if I didn't need them out, don't take them out.  It's just the way she is/was.

I will fully admit I was a WHINEBAG until they came out.  Even looking back now, I threw fits over the dumbest things.

This was before I even heard anything about one correlating (sp?) with the other.

And I think it had to do with potty training.. I think?  When someone (maybe Pam? or Erin?) had brought it up

I still whine.. but it's absolutely nothing like before.

Also, my tonsils were "kissing" even when they weren't infected.  I never snored until AFTER I had them out.  My ENT was amazed I didn't snore before. (okay well I did if I drank beer, but that's it)
