interview with recruiter

So I finally got a call from a recruiter today and we talked for half an hour. She said my resume looks good and she'd like to do an in person interview. I said anytime works so she set the date for tomorrow.

Last time I had an interview was 6 years ago with a big company and I interviewed with multiple managers and I wore a suit. She sent a follow up email after our talk with directions and it says "dress format: business casual." What do I wear for a business casual? I was planning to wear my suit until this email so I'm wondering if wearing a suit is going to make me look over dressed?

Also, any tips/advice/questions I should ask from the recruiter would be appreciated.

Re: interview with recruiter

  • I would wear dress pants/skirt, nice shirt and a cardigan.

  • Usually the recruiter just wants to get to know you so they can place you somewhere. I work under a hiring agency and had to go ineterview with the recruiter and i was soooo nervous all for nothing. It wasnt like a real job interivew where you are tryin to impress the person and make them want to hire you. The recuiter just asked me simple questions like where do i see myself and questions about what kind of job i am looking for. Definately wear the suit! who cares if you are over dressed. if anytnig you will impress them more! I would hate to go there and feel under dressed because i know personally thats the worst feeling in the world. just play it safe and wear the suit because you also never know who else you will meet!
  • I would wear the suit, just in case but also know that the recruiter is trying to be on your side so don't worry too much about the interview and think of it as a good practice run before the real thing. Good luck!
