Food Slump/Ideas Wanted

Recently I feel like we're always eating the same things.  Give me your ideas for meals, recipies, etc. TIA :O)

_______

We often eat: spaghetti, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, pork w/marinade, mac and cheese

Re: Food Slump/Ideas Wanted

  • I also feel like we are in a food slump so I shall be stalking this post!  Here are some of our normal menus:

Baked chicken with creamy pesto sauce (either with amish egg noodles or gnocchi)

    Swiss vegetable chicken bake

Breaded pork chops with cream of mushroom sauce (with amish egg noodles)

Chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes and fresh white bread

Chicken and dumplings with mashed potatoes

    Chicken parm

Some items we might start making more: Lasagna, manacotti, homemade pizza, fajitas

Hope some of these ideas help!

  • I'm not much help as I rarely cook, but we always keep beef in the freezer (mostly flank steak) and Chris slices it finely and makes all sorts of different stir fries with different Asian sauces and vegetables.

  • We eat a lot of the same things also, maybe Montana could make this a sticky for us!

    We usually have:

Chicken stuff (recipe in the recipe sticky)

    Tacos (beef)

Gouda and Apple stuffed porkchops (Thanks Hannah!!)

Roast and potatoes in the crock pot

    Lasagna

    Spaghetti

    Stir-Fry with Kikoman stir-fry sauce

burgers on the grill with vegetables

baked Parmesan chicken with baked mac-n-cheese

I know that I make more than that but I am having a "duh" moment.

  • Hmm.. I'll also be checking back here.

Chicken.  I usually buy a 12 pack every week and find a way to use it.  Whether its chicken tacos, chicken stuffed with cream cheese and chives, bbq chicken or some kind of marinade.  Chicken soup with veggies.  Chicken parm, breaded chicken cutlets, I'll google chicken recipes during the day to find a new use for it that night, depending whats in the cabinets.

Broiled pork chops with sugar snap peas and salad - Use garlic salt, onion powder and black pepper on both sides, broil.  Saute sugar snaps, mix a little butter and salt in.  Tossed salad

Homemade pizza - wheat dough rolled out, homemade sauce, sprinkle cheese and usually Mike will toss a random topping on his half.  wheat dough rolled out, butter and garlic sause spread, sprinkle cheese, top with broccoli or tomatoes

Homemade cheesesteaks / cheesesteak salads - shread sandwhich steak from the market, add a few slices of cheese while on the stove, add banana hots for more flavor.. Mike will sometimes ask for mushrooms or fried onions (or all the above lol)

Steak with mashed potatoes and corn - prime rib cut, quick heat on top of oven in light butter sauce the broil for 5ish minutes on each side (for rare/med rare).  I use white russets, peel and boil for like 25 mins on high, strain, chop with fork, add garlic salt and butter, mix on low, add milk, leave em chunky.  Saute corn and mix in light butter and salt and black pepper

Ribs, bisuits and broccoli with butter - Use garlic salt, onion powder and black pepper on both sides, broil.   Crescent rolls, sometimes I add shredded cheese to the tops about 1 min before they're done.  Saute broccoli and mix in light butter

Chicken tacos / Beef tacos - bake chicken, shred, use all taco condiments.  Heat beef on stove, use all taco condiments..  For a quirker way, we get the chicken in a bag at the market, come hoem and shred that then use all the taco stuff - 5 minute dinner

Mini strombolis - using cresent rolls, unroll them, stuff with lunchmeat or pepperoni & cheese and use a fork for pinch the endges shut and bake.

Shrimp sauteed with butter and hot sauce, toss with a spaghetti, use shrimp sauce over pasta for more hot flavor

We eat pasta usually once a week, and have it with a garlice bread or breadstick or something quick I can make.  We like spaghetti, rigatonis, discs.  We made egg noodles with butter or with a creamy alfredo

Quiche.  Breakfast style with bacon and cheese or pizza style with broccoli.  Sometimes we leave it plain and use queso/salsa/sour creme to make a western dip for it.

Hot dogs - as is, or wrapped in cresent rolls or sliced half open and stuffed with cheese.

Breakfast.  Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, toast

.....that's all I can think of right now.  If I remember anything else I'll add it.

  • DH and I are vegetarians but you could easily adapt some of these ideas to add real meat. Here's what we've had recently -

Beef stroganoff - we use morning star beef crumbles, with 2 cans cream of celery, some sour cream, some chopped onion, and egg noodles

Home made pizza - we just buy the bobli crust and cheese, sauce and whatever toppings we want

Burritos - tortillas, black beans, rice, onion, cheese, salsa

    Veggie burgers with french fries

Tostizzas - take canned biscuits, flatten them out into small pizzas, and we make mexican like pizzas - salsa, cheese, beans, green peppers, onions, etc. and bake.

Vegetarian cheese steaks - we just cook some of the fake beef stuff, toast rolls with provalone cheese, and put it all together - yummm

Meat ball subs - again we use fake meat meat balls but you get the idea :)

We're also big steelers fans so we like to make the "pittsburgh promanti bros" sandwiches - thick bread toasted, with provolone cheese melted on it, french fries and coleslaw on the sandwich.

I also want to make stuffed shells soon, yummm.

Kearstin - I love the idea of the mini strombolis!

Thank you!  They are so good and super easy.  Last time we tried cheese and broccoli and they were awesome too, just a little messy with the cheese wanting to ooze out.

I'm stealing these!! --- Tostizzas - take canned biscuits, flatten them out into small pizzas, and we make mexican like pizzas - salsa, cheese, beans, green peppers, onions, etc. and bake.

YUM!  We might be having this for dinner tonight!!!

Hannah - I'm not really much help because I'm ALWAYS in a food slump...so we go out to eat WAY more than we should.

One of our favorites is Shipwreck Dinner - go to Kraft Foods' website and look it up.  I mean, it's probably geared more toward eight year olds, but we love it :)

Chicken has been seriously grossing me out lately, so I've been cooking it sparingly - I hate cleaning chicken more than anything, but all the recipes that sound good to me call for chicken.  So that's part of why we go out so much.

We also do a lot of pasta, which is so bad for us.  I make all different kinds, and always at least use Barilla Plus to make it somewhat more healthy.

Thanksgiving without turkey is another favorite - I'll make my grandmother's broccoli rice casserole, hashbrown casserole, green bean casserole, stuffing, etc.  So good!

I always think about doing things like tacos, but never do.

Chili and soup are always good, too, but it is starting to get too hot here for these, so no more until October or November :(

We also try to grill steaks every week or two, and I usually serve with some sort of steamed or roasted vegetable(s).

Honestly, I could eat meals made of only steamed and roasted veggies, but always feel like Chris wants/needs more, so I don't do it as much as I'd like.

Will do.  This seems right up DH's alley and with the veggies, I think I'll like it too!
  • I always feel like I'm in a food slump and so I keep tagging things to read later, this post being no exception.  One new thing I tried this week so far (I made a New year's goal to make one new food each week, which does seem to help a little and I've actually kept it for 3 months which may be a record) was barley chili.  DH won't eat normal chili and he liked this...it was in taste of home

  • We eat the same thing all the time too:

    Spaghetti with turkey meatballs

    Baked Ziti

    Lasagne

    chicken and veggie skillet

    burgers

    homemade pizza

    baked turkey ham

    shephards pie

    chicken pie

beef veggie soup in crock pot

    grilled chicken

I am so picky that I am afraid to try new things.  I have recently made a few WW recipes: 1. Rigatoni and sweet bell peppers 2. a healthier turkey meatball sub
