Cooking for weeks at a time?

Does anyone cook for a week, or even two weeks at a time? I would really like to try taking one saturday every couple weeks (or even once a month) to cook for the next couple weeks.

Seems like we end up eating way too much pizza or pb&j when I'm too tired to cook or think of any ideas for supper.

If you do cook in this way, what are your tips and tricks?  Any good websites to review?

Re: Cooking for weeks at a time?

  • Are you wanting to do freezer meals? If so, I'd check out once a month cooking blogs/websites/cookbooks.
    Jennrs posted this one yesterday.
This is from a regular on the WC board; she made several meals in her 3rd tri to stock-up after baby came.
Here is another stock-the-freezer list. Of course, you can pick and choose what you want from the lists. If you want to do it weekly or bi-weekly instead of monthy, just make less meals at a time.

My biggest (and really, only) issue with freezer meals was that I'd forget to take something out of the freezer the night before. I'm normally starving by the time I get home so I don't want to wait on something to thaw and cook so I'd still end up making something else. I'm pretty sure I'll be doing a stock-the-freezer marathon cooking in early May to prepare for baby. It will be well worth it!

If you just want to make meals for the week and skip the freezer, be careful how early you prep things. Meat can only be in the fridge for so long before it's considered bad; same with many other items. You can prep fruits and veggies at the beginning of the wek though.

  • You'll see a lot of us bounce WFD-ideas off each other, I've learned meal planning is a HUGE help!
