Maritime Aquarium

Has anyone been there recently? Last time I was there was a field trip in 4th grade. Is it still worth the trip? I was also looking at New York Aquarium as well. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Maritime Aquarium

  • It's good but small. We went not too long ago for the touch a shark exhibit. If you are OK with driving Mystic is so much better. I have nto been the NY one so I'm not sure how it compares.

  • If you're willing to drive even farther than Mystic, would you consider the Aquarium in Baltimore?  I liked it much better than the one in Brooklyn (although you can get good pizza and spumoni after). I had a blast in Baltimore a few years ago- maybe make a long wknd out of it?  Camden Yards is great and baseball is starting up again.

I was just looking for a day trip so Baltimore is a lil far. DH and I are looking for something to do his days off.

  • we've been twice - perfect size for my kids. it is small, but it's very nice and clean.

we chose to go there instead of NY because it takes less time and is cheaper once we factor in tickets, gas, parking, tolls/bridges. and i think it takes less time to drive to CT than to Brooklyn.

  • I prefer Mystic over Maritime.

We just planned a trip to the New England Aquarium one in Boston for April.

    Are you referring to L&B's?

This Brooklyn girl love's the one in Brooklyn. A perfect day for me would be sand, aquarium, a few turns on the Cyclone and a hotdog from Nathans.

However, I am planning to go to the one in Mystic next week.

  • We went with Layla this past summer. she loved it.  imo, i think its more for kids than adults.  i would say go to mystic with hubby and wait to go to maritime when you have kids. :-)

  • We've been to the maritime Aquarium a few times lately.  It's smaller but, is well kept. George is very partial to the Meerkat exhibit and the seal feedings :)

This exactly!  We've taken A to Maritime 2x so far.  He looooved the meerkats.  A had a heck of a time popping his head in and out of the little viewing bubble they have for kids in the exhibit.  It took me a good 20 minutes to lure him away and onto another area of the aquarium.
