Any health insurance experts?
Does anyone know what constitutes an "inborn error of metabolism"? More specifically would milk protein allergy or intolerance fall under that category? We are going to try Similac Alimentum with B since he is milk protein intolerant and I called the insurance company and they said it is 100% covered if it is an inborn error of metabolism. I called the pedi and am waiting to hear back but just was wondering if any of you ladies knew what this meant...

Re: Any health insurance experts?
I am *guessing* that is something that is medically defined and diagnosed by the dr? i will have adam take a look (i bet his nurse asked already) and if he can help i'm sure he will.
Thanks Jaime
I put a call in to the pedi office and just asked someone to get back to me regarding the coding since the insurance company said they would need a diagnosis code and CPT code whatever that means.
I asked her if there were specific illnesses/disorders listed under "inborn errors of metabolism" and she said no it just all depends on how the dr codes it. We aren't even sure if the formula will work but we figured IF insurance would cover it, it could be a long process so I just wanted to get the ball rolling to see whether it is even an option.
On an unrelated note, I hope you all get some sleep tonight. I saw your FB post and totally feel your pain
