Do you really live in a log cabin?  I'm intrigued by this.  What's it like?  Is this common in the area you live in?  Do you like it?

  • I was surprised by this too!  For some reason I have in my head that where you live is not a town where that is common.   I could be totally wrong about that....just like I thought LadyE lived somewhere else too.  Ha ha ha.
  • Yep.  I do live in a log cabin.  It's not very common here at all but it's home.  When we got married DH gutted the house and redid all the walls & cabinetry/ had friends redo the floors.  The inside is hardwood floors, a little carpet, and regular drywall walls.  The only proof its a log cabin is looking at the exterior walls.  I actually really enjoy it and love that it's different from a typical house.

  • That's so cool! There's one for sale in one of the towns we're looking at houses in right now. But the inside is all wood, and it is just too much wood. I think that you have drywall inside is awesome!
  • Ah, the drywall inside was one of the things I was wondering about.  So I guess it's just the exterior that looks different and the interior has regular framing and insulation between the drywall and the logs?

Do you know how old the house is?

Did you guys pick the house together or did your DH already own it pre-marriage?

    I assume it's one story?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really intrigued for some reason!

When DH gutted he just left the exterior walls.  The whole interior was redone in the last 5 years.  It has "normal" drywall and framing. The exterior and exterior walls are the only part that look "log cabin-y". The interior walls run up to the exterior walls.

The house is about 20 or 25 years old.  His dad and grandfather built it. One story with a full semi-unfinished basement.  Its cozy.  Will need more space if we have more kids but it works for now.
