Does anyone buy their own health insurance? We are needing to get it on our own due to a change in jobs on my part. It would need to be for the both of us and I'm interested in maternity coverage. I've heard most companies won't cover a pregnancy until you've had it for 12 months.
So far we have looked at BCBS and Coventry.
Re: health insurance?
We looked into it a couple of years ago, and wound up going with COBRA for me and a BCBS independent policy for DH. This was only for a 6-7 month period, though.
I think it was going to run us about $350-400 a month if we got it for the two of us with maternity. For DH, it was only $140 ish a month.
It wouldn't cover any maternity related costs until I'd been with the plan for 12 months.
Health insurance rates are so variable dependent on the person.
BCBS is the only company that offers maternity coverage in Oklahoma for private insurance. Now that G is here, we are getting on United Health Care (Golden Rule) because they had the least expensive premium for the coverage we wanted.
Also, my understanding is that most hospitals do global billing which means they bill after the baby is born, so you could technically get pg 3 months after you get on insurance and the birth would be covered.
