I want to cry

I don't know if anyone remembers back during wedding planning days, I was having problems for 6 months, which eventually led to my gallbladder being removed.  I haven't had problems since, until Thanksgiving after I ate a lot and the same for Christmas.  Then starting towards the end of January it's become almost a daily event again.

I bloat.  Not just like a normal uncomfortable bloat, but a I look very pregnant bloat (see pics).  I get burning stomach aches, heartburn, stabbing pains, nauseous, and just feel like $hit all the time.

I had blood work and an x-ray done while bloated.  I just got a call that both were normal.  Usually good news, but it makes me want to cry.  It's deja vu.  Last time was test after test for 6 months with all normals except a slight abnormal gallbladder test which made them decide to take out my gallbladder hoping it was the problem.

I am sorry for the whining.  I am sick of this and just want to find out what is causing it and make it better :(

Re: I want to cry

  • I'm so sorry hun:( I do remember you going through all of that before.

I can see why you're so upset and want to cry. It's frustrating when doctors can't find out what's going on with your body:(

Since their tests came back all ok, what is the next step?

I hope you start to feel better soon. I'll be keeping you in my t&p:)

  • I am so sorry to hear that they haven't figured out the problem yet :/  I had some stomach issues for about a year leading up to and for a while after the wedding.  It turned out to be an ulcer and IBS, but it took forever for them to figure it out and get me on a med that helped where the side effects didn't out weigh the benefits.  I had terrible stomach stabbing burning pains, it's such an awful feeling.

Are they going to be conducting any more tests?  What did they tell you the next step would be?

I'll definitely be thinking about and hope they figure this out soon!

  • Ugh. Sorry Kelly, that is frustrating. I can only imagine how horrible it feels. :(

I hope they find out what it is, and get you back to normal. ASAP.

  • You might want to discuss with your Dr trying to cut gluten out of your diet.  Although you might not have Celiac (which you might want to get tested for anyway) sometimes Drs will recommend going gluten free since gluten is a known irritant for other gastro-intestinal issues. (i.e. if you have other problems with your  system, gluten can actually agitate and exasperate the problem, causing the bloating, nausea, and pain). It might at least be worth a try or something to look into.

  • Sorry Kelly :( I hope the docs get it figured out for you soon.

  • I have a small bowel follow through test Friday morning (I drink barium and they watch how my body digests it).  After that would be a colonoscopy/endoscopy.  I had all these test last time around, but it is a new doctor and they are starting from scratch.

I was tested by blood work and biopsy last time for Celiac.  The blood work I had done last week included this also.

I was actually thinking this same thing but assumed that they probably tested for it initially, although that may not have been the case.  I know when I presented my stomach issues to my dr they ran a test for the various kinds of Celiac disease.  Like Mz Zane said, this would be a good thing to discuss if it hasn't been already.

  • Kelly I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I hope you get some answers and feel better soon. *Lots of Hugs*

Sad I really hope they find some answers or at least some way to alleviate the pain.

  • You poor thing. It sounds very painful. I agree, tests being "normal" isn't exactly what you want to here when you know that something is wrong. I really hope they can figure out what's going on soon and get you on a treatment.

  • I'm so sorry Kel.  I was just going to ask about the endoscopy/ colonoscopy/ contrast scans.  I'm glad your drs are at least on top of it.  Are you seeing a specialist or a GP?

Thank you, I really appreciate it.

You are right about the embarrassment of the bloat.  Years ago, last time this happened, we were at a bar and I was bloated.  Some dumb guy tried to start a fight with Floyd over a pool game and used the line, "just cuz your girls pregnant...".  I started to bawl.

  • people are so rude. i hate when people make hurtful assumptions like that.

when i was sick, andy and i were out to dinner and i got a small cup of soup which i couldnt finish. the waiter said, "you must be on a first date because she is barely eating to try and impress you!" andy totally told the guy off.

i dont know if your bloat happens from eating, but if it does and you have developed a "fear of food" ie- not wanting to eat because you know what its going to do to you, i found that in order to keep up my nutrition and weight Luna or Cliff bars ( or any protein bars) and an Ensure shake are best. when i was sick i would eat one luna bar and one ensure each day, thats all i would have and it took me about three hours to get it all down. but at least it kept me from becoming malnurished and dehydrated.

Thank you.  Yes, it does happen when I eat.  I am scared to eat, especially in public because A) I go from looking normal to pregnant in minutes and worry what people think and will say B) If I am wearing jeans or non stretchy pants I don't fit in them when it occurs.  I appreciate your advice.  It is hard not to feel defeated or like you are losing your mind when there is obviously something wrong yet no answers are to be found.

  • Have you been tested for food allergies?  I had a friend that had a similar reaction ot Wheat.  She didn't develope the allergy until her mid 20's.  She cut out wheat and has been fine.   I've heard of other gluten allergies doing the same thing.

No I haven't, just for celiac.  Thanks for the information.  I will ask my doctor about it.
