XP: Poll: If you won the lottery how would you spend/save your $?

DH and I were talking about this the other night over dinner. The Mega Millions was up to something like $312 million a few days agot. So we figured if we won that we could take home approximately $150 million.

So how would you spend/save/donate/gift your $150 million?

(also posted on my local board)

Re: XP: Poll: If you won the lottery how would you spend/save your $?

  • I think hopefully I would try to give away like at least $50 mill of it, then save some of it, and hopefully give the rest away.  Pay off our mortgage.  I think it would be hard to give that much away and personally I wouldn't want to win anyway...

Random fact:  In Canada, lottery winnings aren't taxable.

  • I'd buy a house and pay off all of our debt.  I'd quit my job.  We would probably pay off all of our family's mortgages or buy a big chunk of land for us all to build on but still be able to be far enough away from one another (this is our long term plan anyway).

We would also be donating quite a big chunk to a couple different charities.  Autism Speaks(my pick) and Special Olympics(DH's pick).

I would also build said house to be awesome enough to foster/adopt a lot of dogs and kids too, lol :)

    PCOS and Endo

    Beta's 11, 14, 57, 637, 2800
Sono showed no baby and teeny tiny sac. Waiting to M/C naturally.

  • I'd pay off all the mortgages for my family members and start college funds for all the kids in my family that haven't started college yet.  I'd also take care of any of their loans.

I'd also donate some of the money to charity and my church.

  • College funds - duh!  Why didn't I think of that?  It seems so obvious but that's a genius idea.

I'm adding it to my list above, lol!

  • We talked about it, we would buy a house (we already know the one we want and it's for sale) Put money aside for savings and pay off bills. And travel for like a year.

  • We'd pay off our mortgage here, then buy some property and build my dream home. Pay off our cars. I'd quit my job and go back to school for my MLIS. I'd make DH quit his job to go back to school too. We'd fully fund a college fund for LO. I'd stick some away for vacations, future cars, etc., as well as whatever investments DH thought would get us a good return. I'd also make a decent contribution to March of Dimes and the Alzheimer's Association. Both my grandmother's died from alzheimer's (one was early onset and one was full blown), so I'd like to ensure a future cure for myself, my family members and my kids!
  • 1 - Pay off my student loans!!! I feel like this is the only way it will be accomplished in my lifetime.

2 - Buy a house we can call "home" in Texas, since we plan on being here some and in Kenya some. We'd just have to decide whether we rent it out while we're in Kenya (with a rental property management company) or leave it empty...Could be we buy a house with a MIL wing where my parents live. Then they could live there, but there would still be plenty of room for us when we're in Texas. Hmmm...

3 - Buy 5-10 acres in Kenya and build a "neighborhood" that will be the orphanage. We could have several houses that would hold up to 6 kids and 2 staff members, a building for dining hall/office/sitting area, and recreation space. Also buy a Land Rover, motorcycle, and "matatu" (tiny 15 passenger van) for the orphanage.

    4 - get Lasik

By now we've only spent about 2 or 3 million.

We'd definitely give to our church and to Wycliffe Bible Translators.

And then we'd see how long we could live off the rest.

  • 1. Convince H we can have more than one more kiddo - no way he could tell me we couldn't afford more than two kids if we hit the lottery.

    2. Set up college funds for JJ/other siblings, and pay off my and H's student loans. I'd definitely go back for my Master's,too.

    3. Give my parents money to do whatever they wanted with it. I bet they'd retire, pay off their mortgage/build a new house, and travel the world. They might even buy a vacation home in Hawaii so they could go back more often.

    4. Give my sister money. I bet she'd go on this massive shopping spree and travel the world with her boyfriend. And pay off her student loans...and maybe build a house in the city she lives in and buy a new car [or two].

    5. Take my sister on an Australian excursion - she's always wanted to go there.

    6. Pay off all our debt and buy a new car.

    7. Donate to several charities/organizations - including ACS, my alma mater and others.

    8. Invest.

That's all I got for now...

  • 1. Pay off our house and rent it out.

    2. Buy a bigger house with a MIL quarters, so MIL and other guests can stay far away from our room!

    3. Buy a new family car.

    4. Give each family member some money.

    5. Completely fund Margots college fund and any future kids, neices, and nephews.

    6. Donate to some charities and to families that are in need (but not the ones on crack, more like the ones that have disabled children, etc).

    7. Travel

    8. DH would probably start his own development company.
