Breastfeeding is hard work

I pumped 6 times yesterday. Blech.

I'm not sure if he is going through a growth spurt or what but he is eating everything I send to school (hence all the pumping) and coming home and sucking me dry. He was on the boob ALL evening and still hungry at midnight.

Good thing the dude is cute!

Re: Breastfeeding is hard work

  • It really is!  Such a juggling act, and so stressful (re: supply).  I have about 40 ounces frozen right now and I'm still worried that I won't produce enough to get her through daycare once it starts, or I won't make it to 13 months like I did with Owen, etc. etc.  Never mind the idea that since we're the ones with the boobs, we're always the ones on call, either to feed or to pump.

Ugh, pumping 6 times in one day must suck.

  • I am SO paranoid that I will not be producing enough to get him to a year.
  • Agreed! I am really sick right now and nursing means I have to wake up at 6:00 every morning no matter what, so it's making it harder to get better.

  • Absolutely! I made it 13 months with Eli and was so proud, but it was stressful (pain, supply, intolerance issues, time) the most of the time. As we think about #2 this is one of the only things I am not really looking forward to and worry I won't make it as long next time. I do love it for the bonding and health reasons, but it is such a huge and exhausting commitment.

  • When Abby went on her nursing strike month 4-12, I pumped exclusively the entire time.  It is HARD work and certainly has its pay offs.  Good, nutritious, free and yummy food for our little ones!  Good work ladies!!!

  • It is really hard work, and I'm always impressed with the lengths many of you go to to make it work.   Some people think that BM just "flows" readily, easily and freely but there's so much that the mama does to make that happen (or try to make it happen when it doesn't)!   Way to go!
  • Seriously, pumping SUCKS!  It's the thing I'm most stressed about re: going back to work (where/when to pump, cleaning all the pump parts every night, packing them every day, prepping stuff for daycare).  What a pain in the arse.  You'll be so excited when you're done pumping - it's like a victory when you get to pack it all up and stash it in the closet.  Hang in there!
