1 year appointment

I can't believe it's been a year and I'm asking this question!

What should I expect for this appointment? I feel like I remember this one being a little more intensive, like bloodwork, MMR etc. DD is a bit of a handful at appointments so figured was worth a shot in comparing your past appointments and seeing what was most common. Thanks!

Re: 1 year appointment

  • Josh just got a few shots - was really no different than any of his other appointments.

  • Yes to shots -- 4 maybe?  But no to bloodwork, presuming that she had bloodwork done at her 9 month appt. for lead levels.  Other than that, it's your typical appointment.

  • Is it bad I don't remember Abby's one year?  I know she got a couple of shots, we had lots of questions about her weight, or lack of, and her diet.  Developmentally, the doc asked questions about what she can do, her hearing, how's she sleeping, what words she says, number of teeth...

I guess I remember more than I thought!

  • No bloodwork at her 9 month appointment. That one was uneventful, no shots either since she was all caught up. Guess we'll find out :)
  • Lead is another one!  We had it done at 9 months because of my parents old,old house.

  • I wonder if they'll bother since she's only lived in new construction... I hate when they draw blood from her. I hope she's better now, but the first 5 months it was horrible, she was a slow bleeder and it would take 6-7 minutes just to get a small amount :(

We live in new construction and they still did the lead test. I believe it was at 12 months. :( I hope her appt goes well!

    Boo! Thanks!

  • She should have gotten or will get her 1st Varivax (chickenpox), Hepatitis A and a Prevnar (pneumoccocal).  Every practice is different with the bloodwork.  At our office we do lead and hemoglobin (blood level count to check for anemia among other things) at the 1yr appointment.

    Hope all is well!

Hey Jill!!! Good to see you on here :) Miss ya! Her appt is next week, so we'll see! Thinking about it, they'll probably do the hemoglobin because of her past issues too. Ouch, MMR and Varivax, no fun!

  • MMR should happen at her 15 month Well Child visit.  Yeah and these appointments are no fun!!  Even for the medical assistant or nurse giving the shots....take it from a medical assistant!!  Good luck!!
