Book Club?

Thanks to my fifty-minutes a day spent riding the lightrail to work and back, I go through a lot of books, and I'm always looking for new things to read. Would anyone be interested in starting up an online book club on here?  We could take a poll once a month to select a new book and then make a post a month later to discuss it.

Any interest?

Re: Book Club?

  • Me. My book club has sort of died out... I think people are too busy and don't want to host one anymore. And I've got a lot of books on my to-read list. So I'm definitely in!

  • We had tried this a while back and it just didn't take off.. That said, I'd be happy to contribute to the discussion if a book is read that I find interesting!

  • I would be in - I need some non-school books to read especially with summer vaca coming up!  I agree, however, that an online discussion may die out.  That said, I would do my best to participate in posts, but wouldn't be against a real life (gasp!) group either...
  • I would!  I was bummed that it didn't take off last time.  I know I was really busy when we did it before and did not read it in time for the discussion.  Maybe it would help if we asked specific questions about the next book...
  • I'd be interested if it's a relatively inexpensive e-book.  Big Smile  Otherwise I probably wouldn't put in the effort if I'm going to be 100% honest.

  • I would although I frequently hate books that other people like and irrationally get mad at them for liking it.

  • I think the idea of having a few pre-made questions to get the discussion going would be a good idea.  Since I suggested it, I'll volunteer to do that.

I was thinking that we could have a post where people suggested books and maybe gave a little description with them and then another post where we just respond with our vote.  Highest vote wins.

Does once a month sound like a good amount of time?  We could have discussion posts on the last day of the month.

  • I'm in providing I can get the book from the library in time for the discussion :-)

I know last time there was a long waiting list for the book and I didn't get it in time (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), though I did eventually read it :-)

Ditto - that's ridiculously funny!  Why do you get so angry???

  • As I mentioned in the other post, I can't commit to fully participating (so I won't vote on book selections), but I'd happily chime in on discussions of any books that I've happened to have read.  When i'm done with my PhD (longest stinkin' PhD in the history of humankind), I would looooove to join a book club!
