Grrr...Vent!

Ughh, so I am helping to costume a production of Wizard of Oz at a local community theatre which opens tomorrow night, which is great because this is what I went to college to do and I love it.

What I don't love is the fact that we miscounted the number of poppy costumes we needed (there are two casts and we didn't realize that there are 7 in one and 8 in the other, so we are short a costume). No problem, they were just trim added to a green dress and some minor alterations and we have a spare green dress.

THis would be no big deal and whould take maybe a couple of hours (the hat is handstitched), but now my craptastic sewing machine is freaking out and after changing the needle, changing the bobbin, trying new thread, adjusting the tension, adjusting stitch length, and trying everything I know to do to get it to work, it is just stitching a garbled mess. So now it looks like I'm handstitching all the trim on.

And I just realized that I am short about 10 inches of trim, so I have to go to the fabric store which is over 30 minutes away in pouring rain. Yippee!

Anyway, anybody want to recommend their favorite sewing machine? I would love to get one that does embroidery too, but I want to pay less than $1000 for it, which kind of limits my options. Advice?

Have a mini ice cream pop for listening to me whine.

Re: Grrr...Vent!

  • Oh no! How frustrating.  I have a sewing machine that i love, but it's totally old-skool (my grams gave it to me).

And can I vent about those pops you posted?  They look so good I wish I had one in real life!

I know nothing about sewing machines but I'm sorry you are having a crappy day and I hope it gets better soon!

  • I just have a basic brother that does the trick... however the today's special on HSN might catch your eye: http://www.hsn.com/todays-special_xh.aspx?ocm=todspc&cm_re=billboard1*ts*slide3

They have a great flex pay option too that I use all the time. If my machine bit the bullet I'd be all over this. HTH.

  • Thanks girls! I ended up putting over 149 miles on my car before noon this morning. Yuck.

Fortunately, I have already finished the alterations on the dress and just have the hat left now. My hand sewing is faster than I thought.  Still grumpy about my machine, but hoping DH can take a look at it. I found a Brother machine that does embroidery on Amazon that looks promising and is under $400, so maybe that will be my birthday present to myself.  :)
