True or Fales?
I'm trying to tell myself its true. Thats the mantra one of the nurses is trying to sell me on. I just met the 4 yr old from hell and she kicked my ass. I literally had to leave the room and get a nurse to come help me before I lost my cool. I believe she is a total product of her environment. Grandma was totally enabling her and mom was no help.
She was brought to the ER for fever, cough, trouble breathing. I go into see her and she is sitting on the stretcher eating handfuls of reeses peeces. I show her what I brought in (a neb, a pediatric dinosaure mask, and meds). Tell her what I'm going to do and she seemed resistant but ok. I go to put the mask on and gradma immediatly pins her to the bed with her legs and covers her eyes with her hands. Naturally the kid freaks. Grandma is yelling at me to just do it and get it over with. I turned off the treatment and the kid was still screaming. I am kneeled down whispering to the kid (to desclate the situation) and she kicks me in the face!!! Seriously I have a fat lip from a 4 yr old!!. I got up and walked out of the room while grandma and mom are laughing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The nurse went back in and I dont know what he did or said but we gave that little brat her tx with a moderate amount of fighting.
BRB have to take an adult pt to the ICU.
Re: There are no bad kids on bad parents
Oh no, I hope you're ok! That is completely ridiculous. Grandma was way out of line restraining her and covering her eyes.
Some kids are harder to deal with than others (like my little "angels"), but most of the time kids are bad because of bad parenting. Some parents 1) don't care and therefore do nothing, or 2) don't know what to do and use punishment first. Either way the kid never learns what is appropriate and continues to be bad.
OMG that is horrible. I would be livid.
When I worked in childcare, 98% of the time, it was bad parenting. My dad, to make me feel oh-so-much-better than I already do about child rearing, reminds me that there are Charles Mansons in this world that were likely past helping/good parenting, but for the most part...it's just plain bad parenting. And I'd definitely blame the mom and grandma in that situation.
Oh no! Go ice that lip!
I think 90% of the time it's the parents, but sometimes there are just nutty kids. I worry sometimes that I'll get one.
This is my fear, too!
This is one reason I don't want kids. If anyone would know how to deal with nutty kids its me. But I like that I can leave my nutty kids when work is done.
I'm trying to but now the ER is getting busy. I think itll be ok, probably a nasty ulcer though!!
I agree that hospital and doctors make normally sane kids scared. This was just above and beyond the normal freak outs I see. I honestly think this kid would have been unhappy with the tx but she would have tolerated if grandma didnt automatically hog tie her down.
Ok I have a new 4 yr old now and I love her. She said to me "what happened to your lip, you need lip gloss!" BWAHAHA
She is a dream to give her breathing txs too.
I am worried that since I'm full trained/certified, but quit that career that I'm totally going to have to put it to use with my own kids!
Agreed.
Hope your lip is okay!
