Chicago hotels?

I'm thinking of planning a trip to Chicago with my mom/sister.  I'd like to take Megabus from Indy to Chicago so we wouldn't have to deal with a car & parking.  The bus stop for Megabus is Union Station.  Any hotel suggestions?  I have only been to Chicago for work & those hotels were usually pretty $$.

Re: Chicago hotels?

  • We did our hotel through Hotwire when we went in December. We got Hotel Indigo on Dearborn for like $70 bucks a night (this was a Thursday-Sunday trip). I used betterbidding.com beforehand, so I was 99 percent sure the hotel I was choosing was Hotel Indigo. We loved it there - very boutique-like, awesome staff, close to a red line, which takes you downtown and most touristy-type places. We actually walked to Michigan Ave from there. The only negative to note was that the rooms were on the small side - but when we travel, we are really only in the room to shower and sleep, so no big deal for us.

We also took the Megabus and loved it!

  • I wish I could be more help but I never get to stay in hotels in Chicago.  I always have to stay with the in-laws Crying

We stayed here last Spring, and it was a great location (right around the corner is the Mag mile, and the John Hancock building).  The staff was very nice, and it was clean.

If you want to go to the Hancock building, go at night (and go to their bar/lounge for free to see the views).

Definitely go to Portillo's for a beef sandwich, it's sooo good and cheap/casual.

  • We stayed at Hotel Felix in September, it was very nice, not too pricey, and we even took the MegaBus!
  • Our last trip there, we stayed at a hotel called The Avenue and it was really nice! It was reasonably priced and it was about 1/2 block from the center of Michigan Ave. They were doing some remodeling when we were there, but that was 2 years ago now so it should be finished. I'm not sure of the hotel's location in reference to the station, but you could always taxi if the price is right. I found them on Expedia and then did some price comparisons on the online sites then just called the front desk and swindled them down a few extra bucks per night. When we go back, we will most likely stay there again.
