Niner Winos--Step Up to the Bar
Didn't want to steal Neuner's Niner Winers from her post yesterday. But since so many of us appear to be total lushes, anyone care to share their fave wines here? I'm always on the lookout for recommendations. (The lower the price, the better. I have fancy tastes but a thrift-store wallet!))
I'll start. I used to be a white wine only drinker, but since January, I've fallen in love with reds. Particularly petit syrah. B got us a bottle of Concannon Limited Reserve 2006 petit syrah for $12 at a local store and it was the best wine I have ever had. Went back and bought the last bottle of it and then couldn't find it at any other stores. Looked online and the winery sells it for $50 a bottle. Yikes.
As part of my pursuit, I've been trying other vintners and found a nice little organic petit syrah by Green Truck. Runs about $9-10 and is a nice table wine.
So, wine talk anyone?

The Frozen Tundra ($13) one is my favorite. The Rosso and Glacier White are also very good.
Also, I'm pretty much an all white drinker too, but I recently tasted a local wine called Ives Noir, and I really liked it. It was almost peppery. Would be very yummy with a big slab of rare steak. Yum.
As for other brands just from the liquor store, I like Barefoot Wines if I want to be cheap. They're like $6-$9 a bottle. I really like their Moscato and their Reisling.
We also recently found some wines from Arizona, from a winery owned by Maynard James Keenan, the guy from Tool and A Perfect Circle. The wines are called Arizona Stronghold, and they're a blend of grapes, so they have a unique flavor. We really enjoyed them.
Where do I start- I feel a little out of the game but will be back in it soon enough:
Root 1 - love the stuff. Havent had a bottle I didnt like (well there arent many bottles I turn my nose up to)
Michael and David Phillips Petit Petite 2008 - GREAT wine.
I am a fan of the Cline Zins- their Cashmere is great. They also produce Red Truck which is great stuff for BBQ.
I am a big fan of Malbecs as well. We go through a lot of wine- and I can tell you right now at our house as we are packing we have 8 cases of wine - too much vino!
If you ever go to Sonoma- look up Scribe Winery. They are new - we got a private tour of their up and coming winery last May and it was FABULOUS. We plan to take the baby next year with us when we go back to San Fran and we will run out there for a quick visit. The wine makers are hot and the wine is wonderful. We have a bottle packed to open at the hospital.

They would also make Green Truck then. Haven't tried any Red Truck yet.
No such thing as too much! And hey, if you want to get rid of any of that, feel free to send them my way. Just doing what I can to help a girl out.

We love Simi chardonnay and it's only about $12!
Other than that, Josh picks everything out - it's always good but I couldn't tell you the names of any of them! Our wine supply is piling up since he's the only drinker now:*( Ironically I got him a wine membership for Christmas - haha.

You need more than one of the Petit Petite- trust me on this one!
My husband has also been liking Yellow Tail's "Tree Free" Unoaked Chardonnay. It is aged in steel barrels.

I just went to a wine tasting on Saturday, and not only did I have a blast, but I came across a new wine! Being mainly a white wine drinker, I love me some reisling, so I came across Rosemount's Tramier Reisling and it is AMAZING.

late to the party, but HUGE wino here!!! We've been taking wine classes and such and it's turning me into a huge wine snob.
Favorites right now: the Crusher Petit Syrah, Spanish Albarino wine (no particular one, love them all right now), and anything from Argentina. We always also have Penfolds Kanooga Hill in the wine bar, as well as Middle Sister's Drama Queen Pinot Grigio. Both very good for very inexpensive. Good for stocking up the wine bar
I have the lists of everything that we've had in the wine classes, I can suggest some more when we get home.

Mary, I like Yellowtail, it's a good wine for the price for sure, tho I'll have to pass on the chardonnay. It's too buttery for me.

And I'm a cheap date too. I'm enjoying some $3.99 Blue Fin petit syrah from Trader Joe's right now. Been abstaining from alcohol during the week, but this has been one of those days.
I'm MEGA late to this game but am a HUGE wino. My parents recently bought shares in a vineyard and are even bigger winos.
Red, whites, ports, ice wines, sparkling - you name it, I love 'em all. My love of wine started after visiting a local wine house, whose owners are really good friends of my family. If you're interested and on fb, I would encourage you to "like" this page: Rozi's wine house
(side note abt this place - the daughter of the owner had a rare genetic heart defect and they started a foundation to raise money for research for it. A portion of everything you buy from them goes to the research fund. And, CB and I found June at a benefit for the research foundation
Anywho, I'll step off my soapbox now, but not before I mention how good they are for beer lovers as well!
Bottom line - I love wine. A LOT.

I like reds and whites, though it took a long time for me to appreciate the reds. I really like Zins though. (And might I add that I hate when people confuse Zinfandel with "white Zin" or some of that fruity pink crap.) I had a pretty healthy addiction to 7 Deadly Zins last summer, that's a great one.
As for whites, I LOVE Bridgeview Blue Moon Oregon Riesling. It's probably the best Reisling I've ever had, just dry enough but not too sweet. Highly recommend.
i also adore wine. but admittedly, i am a wine snob. i really prefer only local (PA or NY wines) and i also dont like dry. the driest i will go is a riesling to sip or a pinot grigio for food pairing.
recently we had a white merlot that i actually liked and a cab sav rose that were both "sweetened dries".
mcd- andy likes Crane Lake petite syrah. i think its like $9?
