Hi All,
Wanted to say hi to everyone in the thread, I'm a newbie to the Nest that moved over from the Knot. I've been happily married for 4 months and we're getting into the swing of things. Anyways, onto my question!
The H's bday is coming up in May and I want to plan a staycation (vacation nearby). We're both really excited to do a 4 day vacay over to Disney and the rest but we are trying to keep a budget. What are your thoughts on doing the time share vacay where you have to give up approx 90 min for a "time share oppt"? The hotel discounts plus possible free tickets seem almost too good to pass up but I don't want to waste more then 90 min. Have any of you ladies done these? Was it worth it? Were there hidden costs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA ladies, I appreciate all the help we can get.

Welcome to the boards!!!!
If it were me...if I couldn't afford a vacation without wasting 90 minutes of my time for someone to try and sell me something I would do something else. I'd rather stay at home and cook a nice dinner than go to Disney and have to deal with a time share sales person. I can only imagine that they'll get your information and continue to harass you for weeks to come.
That being said, I had to stay at Disney for a race I did and we got a super cheap rate at one of their "value" hotels for $117/night at the Disney Pop Culture. It wasn't a great hotel but we weren't in the room much and it was clean. I'm not sure what your looking to spend but that's an idea.
Welcome to the board..... To answer your question....
Oh my parents loved to do those things when we were younger. They would torture the salespeople. We were actually watching home videos from Hawaii and the time share guy would.not.leave.my.parents.alone. Like he came to our family dinner after the whole "90 minute talk" turned into a whole entire day and was on our home videos. We were dying laughing.
So, no, I do not recommend you do it. The last place I'd want to spend my birthday was getting pressured into buying a timeshare in Orlando.
Oh, btw, my parents have a time share in Orlando. Go Figure.

Hi! Welcome to the board:)
When we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon they were everywhere. Everything is free if you take time share meetings, but we had one week to spend on the other side of the world and had flown 12 hours to get there. I would have paid them just to leave me alone. I refused to even make eye contact with them for one second. We maybe could have saved good money on some of the activities we paid to enjoy, but our time was just too precious. It just depends on what your time is worth to you. Maybe since your travel time is less it might be worth it. Whatever you decide, enjoy! Any vacation sounds amazing right about now!
Welcome! We are pretty awesome here!
I would say it's not worth it; Although my FMIL has already signed up for this dealie...She does a lot a silly things, though.
My dad did this once when my sister and I were young. There was a pop-up ad on the internet advertising a free stay in Williamsburg, VA if my dad did the presentation. It was a long presentation and they take you on a tour of the timeshare and then they pressure you into the sale. As I recall, the words the man actually userd on my father were, "WHAT KIND OF FATHER ARE YOU IF YOU *DON'T* GET A TIMESHARE?!?!?!" Yep, that kind of crap.
I think in April-ish the Value resorts might be cheaper, and since you live in FL you could possibly benefit from an annual pass, if it is in the budget - FI and I have stayed in them for as little as $87/night during his birthday (in early May) - and you don't have to pay parking for the parks if you take the bus, so that is nice. I would say do a day or so at the parks (if that is an option), stay a night in the hotel.
Hello and welcome to the board!
I am like you, I'd probably want to sign-up to do the time share talk to save some money. BUT I have never been to one. After reading everyones' stories I'm not so sure that it would be worth it.
