What to ask before starting new job?

In a few weeks I'm going to be transitioning to a new position in a different department of my company. I'll be doing a similar job to the one I'm doing now, but I'll have a lot more responsibility and the processes will be somewhat different. I'm meeting with my new boss this week to discuss the position further/prepare for the transition.

My concern is this: Every time I've met with her (even in the interview) she didn't have much to say or to ask me, and kept asking me if I had any questions. I had a number of questions prepared and came up with more on the spot, but at a certain point, I just need to know more about my exact duties before I'll have any more questions. Unfortunately, she's not really in the position to tell me about my exact duties--a coworker will be training me on that. I would ask her if it would be appropriate for the coworker to join us, but she really wants to have a one-on-one meeting with me.

What kinds of questions would you ask? Is there a good/professional way to say "I'll have a ton of questions once I know more of the exact duties of the job?" I don't want her to think I'm not interested or excited because I really am....but at a certain point, there's just not much more to ask.

  •  I just need to know more about my exact duties before I'll have any more questions

I'd just say that. Tell her she's answered all your questions so far, you're really excited about the position, and you're sure you'll have more questions when you speak with your co-worker.

  • Be honest.  Tell her that you're very excited about the new position, and you're eager to ask the colleague training you questions once you know more about your responsibilities.
