So I need some help!
I started going back to the gym last night and I hope to get there 3 or 4 times per week. When I got back at it, I sort of felt helpless like I really did not know what to start with and where to go from there.
I ended up doing 30 minutes on the eliptical and then 32 minutes on the tredmill going at a fast walk / light jog pace. I wanted to go on a bike after that, but I could feel a blister forming on the bottom of my foot near my big toe. It killed, so I decided to stop.
I want to ease into it, seeing I have not been to the gym in forever, but I also want it to be effective! I plan on doing their kickboxing class and possibly trying a zumba class.
How long should I be doing things, what should I focus on and what should I avoid. I feel lost and feel like an idiot for it.
I also got home and was starving... but didnt think I should really eat much that late. I think it was 8:30pm or some time close to it. DH said it's a misconception and that eating protein will do good... so I made two hard boiled eggs. I'll mainly only be going to the gym at night, after 6pm, so I'll be home late each time. What foods are better for me to eat later in the night?
Ugh, I feel stupid now ![]()
Re: Gym ladies, help me out!
you should not feel stupid and good for you getting back to working out!
when i belonged to a gym that had a 7:30pm class i loved, i would have a late afternoon/early evening snack (usually frozen yogurt) and then a big salad with grilled chicken when i got home. protein post-workout is important but you don't want anything heavy either. i usually used purdue short cuts just to make dinner that much easier.
don't forget to do some stretching before working out and to cool down. i pull or tweak muscles easily if i don't stretch enough.
are your sneakers new? you may need to cushion the most blister prone areas of your feet with moleskin.

If you feel lost, ask a gym staff member how to use the machines (and not just the cardio machines ... sometimes the weights are not self-explanatory).
Make sure you are properly fueled and hydrated throughout the day. Maybe try a light snack before you work out? Everyone is different, though, when it comes to eating before/after a workout. You have to experiment to find what works for you.
Most gyms have a variety of classes (weights, spin, Zumba, yoga, etc). Try them out and see what you like best. Get to class early so you can set up and ask the instructor anything you have questions about.
Ease into a workout routine. It sounds like you are trying to do too much too fast. You don't need to do the elliptical AND the treadmill AND the bike all on the same day.
Incorporate strength training into your workout a couple times a week.
Protein after a workout is not a bad idea. I always have something with protein after long workouts.
Good luck!

I hate you very much
HI
My gym offers a free personal training session, bascially they take you through all the machines and set you up on a little routine for what you are looking for. I would ask them what they have to offer for that. At the least they should have an employee walk you through the machines.
Zumba is a great workout to start with. And kickboxing is my Fave, along with spin.
As far as food, I am not an expert but Tuesday and Thrusday I do not get home from the gym till 7:30, but I usually eat my normal dinner chicken or pork mostly, a salad and some kind of veggie and a glass of FF milk.
What gym do you belong to?
Congrats on getting back and good luck !!
Send me an email and if you want to talk & ask me all your questions. There are so many and I am not that good a typer!
