Rats
We have rats in our apartment. It?s disgusting! We called the office and complained about it. A week ago today the pest guy came and put down poison behind our appliances. It is suppose to make the rats really thirsty do they drink themselves to death. For a few days after that, we had no signs of rats. Well yesterday that changed. I can hear them in the walls and it just grosses me out! I don?t even want to use our kitchen (the first time we noticed them they ate our bananas at night). I read online to see how long the poison takes and one answer said that it will not work unless the rats have water to drink. But leaving water out for the rats gives me the creeps! I don?t want to bring them into our kitchen on purpose! Has anyone had a rat problem before? I?m going to call the office again tomorrow and hope they do something about it. Between this issue and our neighbor, I really want to move but I don?t want to pay all the expenses that come with moving again.

From time to time field mice come in our house. We live in brush country and it's just a way of life out here. Sticky traps sometimes work but I swear to God those mice get trained on those things fast! They see one of their friends fall victim and they avoid them! No joke.
We also keep rat bait up in our attic when ever when notice the mice moving in (which unfortunately happens a few times a year, mostly in the winter months). It takes about a week or so for the bait to do the trick and the mice are suppose to be drawn to water (like outside) and die somewhere other than the walls. Sigh. This isn't always the case and we once had a mice die in a wall and the smell was overwhelming. It only lasted for a few days but still, it was unbearable.
But no, I never left water out for the mice and they still managed to vacate our house.
Sorry Liz. It's such a dirty feeling to be sharing your home with rodents. Yuck. I hope your issue gets resolved one way or the other.......either by moving or successful termination of the rats!

Yuck! Sorry, you have to deal with this.
I never had a rat problem, but we did have mice at an old apartment. At first, we tried to take care of it ourselves by setting catch & release traps. We caught probably 6 mice... but there were more.
We called an exterminator & he said there was probably a nest somewhere in the house. They reproduce so fast. Once we caught the adults in our traps, the babies were hungry & then went out looking for food. The cycle continues until you get them all & can stop them from coming in.
The exterminator found a couple potential entry spots & plugged them up. For a mouse, the hole only needs to be the size of a pencil eraser (not sure about rats).

Our lease states that the complex is responsible for keeping the apt rodent free. I'm just not sure how long they have to get that accomplished from the time we complain. I will def look into a free consultation!
