Moving to the area!

Hello Ladies (& Gents if there are any)!

I'm Bianca, and DH and I will be moving to Toledo in June. I've never lived there before, and the only time I was in town was for a job interview. So, I'm completely overwhelmed by trying to find a place to live. I don't know what are good areas or areas to avoid. I don't even know the names of the areas of town that well! I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me find a place to live. I've tried looking at the online rental searches, but quickly realized I had no idea what I was actually looking for.

More info: I'll be working at Toledo Children's and Mercy Children's. So something convenient to both would be ideal. At least 2 bed, 1 bath. Accepts pets. I'm pretty flexible on the rest but prefer: gas stove, an outdoor space (patio/balcony/yard), either on the newer side or renovated historic, included utilities are always good, and willing to sacrifice bedroom/living room size for a spacious kitchen. Price probably looking for the $600 range, but willing to go above if I really like it.

Am I completely unreasonable? Thank you!

Re: Moving to the area!

  • Your best bet might to rent a townhouse. I know Maumee has several townhouses. Are you coming down to visit places beforehand? There are several different owners so I don't have a phone number but you can google Wrexham or Middlesbourough  to get directions. (zip code 43537). They have 2 & 3 bedroom over there.

Across the street is The Hamlet. They are a gated apartment community but it's been a few years since I have been there. Google: The Whitehurst Company. They are also on rent.com.

Perrysburg is also good. Tons of newer apartments. An older community that use to be the nicest in the area is Perrys Crossing Apartments. Even though they are a tad older they still have high standards and the grounds are very nice etc. Lakes At Woodmont are newer, a little further out in Perrysburg but worth looking at. Tracy Creek again newer and nice.

Honestly, I could go on and on about different apartments in the area. If you scroll down a few posts there is a school post. In that post there is a break down of the area's in and outside Toledo. That will help you narrow down the area. Any area is going to be pretty close to Toledo Hospital. We have several expressways and they all will get you where you need to get to and fairly quick.

I was a leasing agent for several years + I am a mystery shopper for apartment complexes in the area so if you have any questions once you narrow down your choices I can help you out!

My DH and I lived at Tracy Creek for the first year and a half we were married, and it was a great place to live.  A two bedroom, two bath will run you a little under $800 there, but that includes your gas and water bill, plus there is a washing machine and dryer in the apartment.  They have a swimming pool, exercise room, and a community area available to rent as well.  It is close to 75 and the turnpike as well.  Almost all the apartments face a pond, and those all have fountains as well.  We really did enjoy living there quite a bit.  I feel for what all you get, they are a great deal.  Good luck!

  • Oooh! Thanks ladies! Great information. I'll check out the post below. I've been so spoiled with W/D in the apt for so long, I forgot the days when I had to drag it down the hall. LOL

Random question: Where do the foodies grocery shop? I heard there's a pretty sweet farmer's market on the weekends.

Edit: Yes, we'll be coming to town in two weeks to check out a narrowed down list of places.

  • Not to snoop but DH just got a job (RN) at TTH as well.  He's in the hospital not Toledo Childrens though.  My dad works in and around the NICU.  I like to say he saves little baby lives every day..hehe

Anything directly around TTH is a little sketchy.

You might consider Ottawa Hills.  It's a village that is surrounded by Toledo. (I know, I know)  There are a bunch of condo's and apartments near Bancroft St./Richards Rd.

I've been to the St. James apartments. Off some side streets between Monroe and Central try Wendover maybe?? They look nice but from what I remember they are pricey.

The other one to consider are the country club apartments off Dorr near Inverness Country Club.  I have never stayed there but I know a few people who have.  All very easy commute (surface streets) to the hospital.
