Tallahassee-area parks?

Hey everyone, I usually post in the health and fitness board but Im looking for a little advice. I go to school in Tallahassee and my husband works in a different town, so I usually visit him on my days off. Occasionally he visits here, and this week, thats the plan! Hes been really stressed and mentioned a few times that the weathers supposed to be nice Monday and maybe we can do something outdoors, or at a park or something.

Hes not nearly as "outdoors" as I am so Im trying to come up with a range of things, and let him choose. Well, I spend my time here working, going to class, stuyding, or at home visiting him....so anyone with any ideas of what to do in Tallahassee/within a short distance from here is completely welcome!

I was looking at the trails listed on the Tallahassee site...and I grew up right off the AT so Im used to mountains and hiking and those kind of trails, these look really short/small and I dont want the day to be a complete miss.

Most of our dates lately have been "dinner and movie" kind of things which are nice because weve been stressed and busy, but we both need something else!

So, any Tallahasse/Tallahassee area-ish recommendations are completely welcome!

Thanks!

  • When DH & I lived in Tallahassee, we used to love taking our dogs out to the greenway off Miccosukee Rd.

Canoeing the Wakulla River is also a lot of fun. We used to rent canoes from TNT & spend the whole day. Its a lot of fun if you can get a big group together too. Also nearby is Wakulla Springs & they have glassbottom boat rides & stuff.

Bear Paw has some tubing trails about an hour or so outside of Tallahassee. We used to go there in college.

As a kid, I remember doing some hiking at Tom Brown Park off Capital Circle NE.

There's also a state park on St George Island about an hour & a half, 2 hours from Tallahassee.

HTH! I know there's several Tally ladies that should be able to give more suggestions Yes

For something pretty and close, Maclay Gardens should be pretty this time of year. Not a ton of hiking trails, but you could walk through all of the gardens and around the lake for a few miles and maybe bring a lunch?

ETA: Our dog used to love it when we took him the the Lake Overstreet/Meridian trailhead off of Meridian road. We enjoyed mountain biking there too.

  • DH and I love the trails at Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park. Quite a few trails with different distances, and the 2 trails at Maclay Gardens is also accessible from the Forest Meadows Soccer Complex, which is located next Phipps.

Ahh I love Klapp-Phipps Park. The Phipps Family has done such an amazing job adding in all the different flowers & plants. I used to take our horses trail riding there. One of my Tallahassee favorites!
